About Me
Hello! My name is Carol, like Christmas Carol. I am Chinese-Canadian (born in Southern China, grew up in Western Canada) but have lived in the US (on both coasts) and in France.
I am first and foremost a curious person - I don't have a set of hobbies, personality traits, or even dreams - I am always trying to learn and adopt new things. The things that I am most curious about are people and cultures - why do people do the things they do, why is a culture particular and distinct, what do you dream of?
I also try to read widely - I enjoy reading the social sciences and philosophy. My favourite authors are Alain de Botton, John Boyne, Albert Camus and San Mao.
Outside of intellectual things, I am also very outdoorsy (having grown up in beautiful Canada). I love hiking, kayaking (and canoeing and standle-up paddleboarding), surfing and generally anything in nature,
Can't wait to get to know you!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have been airbnbing for the past six years and had amazing experiences there. I have always heard about couchsurfing but was reluctant because I am a sensitive sleeper and don't do well with noise/light in my sleep environment. However, as airbnbing can get lonely - especially in the time of coronavirus - and I am missing that aspect of meeting and getting to know locals (which is the most beautiful part of travelling), I decided to give this a try.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I flew to Tikal, Guatemala and got up to watch the sunrise on top of a pyramid while listening to the echoes of jungle monkeys.
24 hours before: I was super sick in bed from a bout of food poisoning in Guatemala City and literally would throw up water. I went to the hospital by myself and managed to get some antibotics that suddenly cured my food poisoning.
