About Me

Hello, I'm Carol :)
Restarting my career in DC since July 2021. Happy to share tips and tricks for the DMV area. ClockoutDC on Instagram is a great resource.

I lived in Ulsan, South Korea and worked as a Guest English Teacher at an Elementary School from 2017 to 2019. Before that, I lived in Córdoba, Spain teaching English with the BEDA program and then made my way to Madrid, where I continued my assistant job with a new school.

I adore la vida andaluz and la vida madrileña is pretty badass as well. I'm still new to la vida koreana, but I try to eat as much kimchi as possible. Oh, and I'm learning Korean... in the form of listening to KPOP (mostly BTS). I am a huge fan of Joss Whedon, ASOIAF, sci-fi and action films, and I promise I like sports, too. Spent Y1 of the COVID-19 pandemic in rural Pennsylvania, but post lock down, I moved to DC.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A few friends have told me this is the place to go for a complete travel adventure. I get to meet new people, see a side of the city that has a more personal touch, and share/exchange life experiences.

Let me be certain that I do not appreciate flirtatious messages. If you are interested in seeing the city I live in, I will gladly show you what I know, but don't just randomly message me. Thank you.

Interests

Teen Movies / Travel / Horror Movies / Joss Whedon creations / British television / Millenium Series / Harry Potter / GOT/ASOIAF / Street art / Music of the Indie Rock persuasion, but I'm also a mindless consumer of the Billboard Hot 100 / Avocados / Whiskey

I'm also a massive feminist. I've mostly learned about feminist theory from other educated women in my life as opposed to reading or studying it academically. It's incredibly important to me and for those of you who don't understand the basic definition of feminism, I've included it below:

Feminism = the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.

Hopefully you agree with this statement :)

The list goes on really. More likely than not I will know one of your hobbies and be able to share something with you.

Music, Movies, and Books

Specifics?

Music: Florence + The Machine, Chappell Roan, Hope Tala, Griff, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lorde, Lizzo, Halsey, The Weeknd, Kim Petras, Rina Sawayama, Muse, Haim, Mitski, Angel Olsen, Grimes, Bishop Briggs, Local Natives, Fleetwood Mac, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, The Postal Service, Beyonce, EXID, (G)I-DLE and BTS

Movies: Hitchcock, Scorsese, Nolan, Steven Soderbergh, Jordan Peele, Bong Joon-Ho, Kathryn Bigelow, Richard Linklater, Catherine Breillat, Pedro Almódovar, and Ridley Scott

Books: Millenium series, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, ASOIF (as stated before), some Jane Austen, Shakespeare, and I'm oddly into plays by Tennessee Williams. Recently I started the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer, so I can recommend Annihilation, but you'll have to get back to me later on the others.

Obviously this isn't everything, but it's a small snapshot into my world. I'm more of a cinephile than a bibliophile. I'm working on it though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one? Well okay, I once volunteered to work at Bonnaroo (a music festival in Manchester, TN) in exchange for paying entrance to the festival. They put me in catering and I ended up monitoring the salad bar. Long story short, the third day, I guided Aziz Ansari to the cheese section where he very meticulously picked up a slice of cheese with some tongs. He was very stoned.

Teach, Learn, Share

You should try an avocado before you die. They are considered a super food.

A random repertoire of movie quotes, inside info on American culture, best places to stay/eat/party in Córdoba and Madrid, Spain. Some insight into Korean culture, cuisine, and KPOP. I can also make you laugh with endless anecdotes involving my grandmother. She finally took her last hurrah in 2020, just a month shy of her 94th birthday.
