About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live intentionally, recognize beauty everywhere!

ABOUT ME

I'm 23 years old, and have spent the last year working with an environmental nonprofit. I have been jumping around the country, first from Portland, Maine, to Santa Cruz, CA to Denver, CO and now in Evanston, IL.... officially having lived in 4 time zones within a year.

I graduated from a small liberal arts college with a major in English and a minor in Environmental studies... though I like to think that these categories don't define me too much. But I do find I'm most passionate about sustainability and get excited about anything and everything to do with that (politically, socially, ecologically, economically, sociologically, psychologically, individually, cooperatively, etc). So that is why I'm planning a big trip to focus on permaculture, agroforestry, sustainable building/design and how we can make both personal changes and broader systemic changes to create the world we want to see.

In the day to day, I am open and flexible to changes and try to keep doing new things each day. I do know that whatever I choose to do long term will give me the flexibility to travel because my experiences traveling have been invaluable to me so far. I value traveling, but also would be lost without strong community ties and a connection to a home. I'm challenging myself to find novelty in near and far places, unknown and familiar.

PHILOSOPHY

Love is why we're here! Being compassionate, curious, and considerate makes everything better.

Home is made up of the people you love.

"It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings.” -Wendell Berry

“To see the world gratefully is to be endlessly surprised by the bare fact of it, its beauty and power and everlastingness. Gratitude is attentiveness. It’s easy to move through the world and never notice how a shifting wind changes the air from salt to cedar, easy to overlook the invisible moon that moves the tides.” - Kathleen Dean Moore

Music, Movies, and Books

Some books that have been important to me:
The Little Prince
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Don Quixote
Ender's Shadow
Redwall
The Omnivore's Dilemma

Just some books that have been important to me that I can think of off the top of my head-- varied music and movie taste, show me something new!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The stars from the base camp of the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro

An orphaned baby sloth near the beach in Costa Rica

Views from 17,000 feet in the Markha Valley, Ladakh, India

Iceland... the whole place! Living in a small village of 100 and learning from the truly unique residents there everyday for three months. Hitchhiking around the country and hiking the Laugevegur trail.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like editing papers in English. I can help make English sound prettier and would love to share book recommendations! I can now knit hats... I can show you how!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook and would gladly cook a meal with you-- I'm not saying I really have any expertise, mostly just enthusiasm.

I've been making my own lip balm and deodorant and can show you how too! Also can be a testament for the no-shampoo hair care method (baking soda all the way baby).
