About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make some memories, lose some regrets.

ABOUT ME

I love yoga, NBA basketball, reading, working with kids, and traveling abroad. I've lived in Los Angeles and the SF Bay Area, and am currently working for a tech startup. I'm a sucker for historical sites, ghost towns, and local street food.

PHILOSOPHY

Be kind.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed in Istanbul and Canada and have had great experiences. I'd be happy to meet up with or chat with anyone coming to the Berkeley/San Francisco Bay Area! (Although I'd probably be more qualified to answer questions about LA.)

Interests

I'm really passionate about social justice, and eventually plan to do something working with under-resourced children and their families.

I love all sports, being outdoors, and trying new food.

I'm currently working on my certification to become a yoga teacher and love practice-teaching on anyone who'll let me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I went to watch Titanic 3D when it came out in theaters (don't judge me)and cried so much it was embarrassing.

I like anything by Jane Austen or Don Winslow.

Music: Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, (and Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate), Blink 182, Drake, Lana del Rey, Third Eye Blind, Death Cab for Cutie, and yes...Taylor Swift.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my earlier travel-related memories: when my sister and I went to Paris a few years ago, we were kind of at a loss. It was our first time in Europe, and there was just so much to see and do in Paris (which remains one of my favorite cities). We finally decided to start off at the Eiffel Tower -- my sister was really excited to see it and she would have dragged us there straight off the train if she could have. We got there at the end of a long day just as the sun was setting, and it was a beautiful moment to just sit there at the top of the steps facing the tower and rest and take in the view. We forgot about how tired we were and how hot the day had been, and just soaked in the moment (and snapped about five hundred photos). Just when we thought the day couldn't end any better, a fireworks show started. It was such a great moment, and so surreal. I remember thinking, "Wow, when I was a miserable middle-schooler, I never would have thought one day I'd be sitting in Paris on a summer night, watching as fireworks exploded around the Eiffel Tower." It's a perfect memory from an amazing trip.

To go with this theme: one of my favorite memories from my Greece/Turkey backpacking trip was sunset at Oia on the Greek island of Santorini. My best friend and I clambered onto a huge rock in the ocean and watched the sun set (with about a thousand other people). We had a front row seat and it was gorgeous.

Last one, I promise: during my trip to Cambodia earlier this year, we worked with children at a village school. We brought a donation of soccer balls to give to the children, and a group of about 30 of them learned how to play soccer and formed individual teams over the course of two afternoons. Watching the kids run barefoot through the field playing soccer was one of the greatest parts of the trip.
