About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Pursuing careers in Music and Theatre and the visual arts.

ABOUT ME

PLEASE READ: WE ARE TOO BUSY TO HOST ANYONE FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, BUT PLEASE GET IN TOUCH IF YOU WANT TO MEET FOR A DRINK:)

We moved to London from South Africa 10 years ago. We are here to pursue careers in Music, Theatre and Arts and experience the amazing melting pot of cultures that make up the city.

Carrie is a backstage theatre professional, and an aspiring artist and currently works on the West End production of 'War Horse'. Eliot is a composer, songwriter and musician who plays fiddle, guitar, sings and produces music. He performed in 'War Horse', plays folk music and is writing music for string quartet and incidental music for theatre and film.

We recently renovated our house and have a lovely place to live with parks and canals nearby, where we often go for walks.

PHILOSOPHY

Accept myself and I can accept others. Acceptance opens me up to understanding and insight. Understanding and insight grow into deeper acceptance.
We believe in creativity, community and that learning should be a part of each day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW WE PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are continually introducing other people to CS. In the past we enjoyed showing people around if we have time when we host and love experiencing the new and unexpected when we surf. At the moment we can't really host, but we would love to meet interesting people for coffee or drinks.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have hosted in London a number of times now and have surfed in Paris, Ancona, Turin and Lyon. All of our experiences have been engaging, positive and rewarding.

Interests

When we are at home we love to make delicious food and bake our own bread when we have time. Carrie draws & paints while Eliot writes songs or composes. We spend a lot of time talking about life and how to make the most of it and love curling up on the couch and watching dvds or reading.

When we go out we like movies, theatre, gigs, dancing, festivals, galleries, parks, cycling/sometimes rollerblading, but mainly we love getting together with friends over a coffee or dinner and a glass of wine and just catching up.

When we travel we like to go to museums and galleries, hear new music, try new food, new experiences and spend as much time as possible enjoying city life, but also getting out of London into the countryside.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Eliot: Once I was at a workshop in a marquee and inside ware 100 people talking in low voices. It sounded like a murmuring river. When I left I walked into a silent field and felt my hearing reach out and touch the trees at the edge of the meadow. It was the moment I realised that sound is tangible.
Carrie: All the most amazing things I've seen or places I've gone to have been in my dreams...I hope to see some of them for real someday.

Teach, Learn, Share

Eliot facilitates music workshops, teaches fiddle, music technology (Ableton and Logic) and songwriting. Carrie is always sharing ideas around printing, sewing/costumes, photography, illustration and community based arts practices. Our passion is sharing knowledge and skills on eco and creative themes.
