About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To discover the world, other people and cultures... I neglected it too long and hope I won't regret it too desperately that I had not started it earlier.

ABOUT ME

I'm not only looking much younger than I am (don't I? :-)) I think I'm also much younger at heart and in mind.

I studied very long and sadly I haven't seen very much of the world until now. I think I mostly didn't spend enough time, money and energy for the important things. Like my studies or journeys. I often planned to study in another country or to stay there for a longer time, but sadly never made the last step.

Now I have a job I don't really like, still live in the same mediocre city, what I never wanted and have the feeling that I missed out something. So I'm looking for some changes in my life.

Then I heard about CS and I think it could be a great opportunity to get to know more of the world, other cultures and people ... and myself. And let the world get to know more about me...what is not the least entertaining or inspiring thing to do I guess.

PHILOSOPHY

Become a better human being. Overcome fears and prejudices and learn to love and enjoy life, other peole and yourself as much as possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new here. But it sounds like a very good thing and I think I will try it more often. To surf and maybe to host, if my first experiences are going to be good.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Like I said I'm new, but I've heard some good things about it.

Interests

I'm very curious and inquisitive and open-minded for nearly everything: from politics to limericks, from attending football matches to going to the theater or opera. From classic or jazz concerts to indie or electronic music concerts or clubs. If you see perfect skills or feel tremendous passion or devotion of somebody it is almost always fascinating for me to watch them peforming whatever they do.

I like museums and books and all other media that enables you to increase your knowledge about the world and your insight in it.

I also like going in for sports. At the moment I'm only jogging or biking and sometimes playing frisbee or speedminton. I was and for sure will be again from time to time play basketball, football or ultimate frisbee.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can enjoy many kinds of movies. Good action, science fiction or animation stuff like Snatch, Avatar, matrix or inception. But I also like movies that touches you emotionally or teach you something about life. It can be a documentary e. g. "earth" or "going against fate" but also even a really hearty comedy e. g. "little miss sunshine" or kind of sociocritical or dramatic stuff e. g. "Babel", "The machinist", "Das Leben der Anderen (the life of others)", "Slumdog Millionaire", "Magnolia" or "Crash" or mixtures of it all, maybe the best films: sociocritical, melodramatic comedys like "The full Monty", "Brassed off", "Schultze gets the blues" or "good bye lenin" (the last two are must see german films).

I hear many kinds of music like Indie, oldies, classic, electro and much more except heavy metal, gangster rap or R 'n' B. Especially at the moment e. g. The Editors, Beirut, The Eels, Jamie T., Billy Talent, Girls in Hawaii, ...

Some books I love:
"Shadow of the wind" Carlos Ruiz Zafon
"Extremely loud and incredibly near" Jonathan Safran Foer
"The cider hause rules" John Irving
"Angela's ashes" Frank McCourt
"Lemprieres dictionary" Lawrence Norfolk
"Das Parfuem (the perfume)" Patrick Suesskind
"Die Vermessung der Welt (Measuring the world)" Daniel Kehlmann

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Much too less until now I think. But the landscape of the canary island la palma is very diversified and really beautiful and dramatic and wonderful for hiking. I guess few people know this.

And the air in a height near 2.000 m in the Alps is so incredible fresh when you step off a bus that carries you there from the valley. It was on an university excursion. I don't remember the name of the place.

Teach, Learn, Share

Maybe the willingness to learn about life and to put my beliefs into question. I sometimes lack in the courage or energy, but never the willingness.

And more practical: I've studied townplanning. Maybe I could give you some new views of or insights into the history, the appearance or the procedures of your own hometown.
