About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Hosting in rural Manitoba...The most underrated Province in Canada!

ABOUT ME

Read my "interests" below. That would be a good place to start...

PHILOSOPHY

Well, I'm not interested in negative people. For years now I've tried to spend as little amount of time as possible around those who are overtly pessimistic and energy sucking. I just think that the vast majority of your experience in life happens in your own head. Life is what you make of it. Do with it whatever you wish, but to me, it's too short to spend it sulking, festering and feeling sorry for yourself. I feel that just being alive and having food, a place to sleep, to love and be loved and to have someone to call a "friend" is more than so many people on this planet have. I realize that certain people have mental illnesses, chemical imbalances or disorders that make it a challenge to even get out of bed in the morning and face another day. I sincerely feel sorry for these people. I guess I'm lucky that I have the inherent capacity to be at least reletively positive and optimistic on most days. That being said, in my opinion, many people choose to continue being negitive instead of learning from their mistakes and moving on or actually confronting the problem. It's fine if that's who you are and how you deal with things, but I've lived long enough to know that when you're in my vacinity, I don't want to be within earshot. simple as that. I feel that i have so much left to achieve/experience/accomplish in my life, but find it that much more of a challenge when in the company of people that do nothing but bring me down. (I could go on forever on this topic, I've seriously thought about this that much in the last little while!). I'm convinced that life isn't what happens to you, but how you deal with what happens to you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Amazing CS experineces in over a dozen European Countries. Mostly surfing then, mostly hosting now.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Utterly thrilled that something as amazing as this exists.

Interests

I like road trips, sincerety, the written word, compassion, beer/partying/pubs/good company, humor, playing and watching hockey, (the vancouver canucks are my favorite), empathy, girls, to trust others and be trusted, to respect others and be respected and spending time alone. I also enjoy meeting new people and staying in touch with old friends, food/cooking, (good vegetarian food will always be my favorite), working out, people who follow their dreams, traveling, my work, taking myself seriously/not taking myself very seriously at all, taking care of myself/not taking care of myself much at all, calling in sick to work, being a good friend, having something to do most of the time, sleeping in, watching movies, how good it feels when a bad hangover disipates, animals, visiting friends and reletives, sex/pornography, being honest, golfing and other sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding, baseball, CFL and some NFL football and drinking. I enjoy hiking and camping, being silly/stupid/weird, going out to concerts and supporting the local scene, (independant bands playing small venues are usually my favorite), taking pictures, doing things like THIS on the computer, languages and cultures, relishing in the simple pleasures in life, living for the moment and the future (and hopefully, rarely the past), my family, politics, the environment, a friendly debate, love, (honorable mention goes out to one night stands, flirting, lust and infatuation) and writing/playing/preforming/recording and listening to music. Check out(www.myspace.com/thechivasbrother). That's my current solo project. I believe in the difference one person can make. I believe in helping others when others have tried or are unable to help themselves. That being said I do not, however, believe in handouts. I believe in taking care of one's self even if that means being selfish from time to time and looking out for your own best interests. You can't help others if you can't help yourself. You can't love others if you can't love yourself. I believe in humanity, but at the same time, also believe that our days are numbered if we continue to treat the planet, ourselves and eachother the way we have been...

Music, Movies, and Books

Music? I'm extremely open-minded, however, stranded on a small desert island, these records/artists would all make the cut:

-Moneen "The Theory of Harmonial Value"
-some Nirvana
-F.O.B.
-"Through Being Cool" and "Stay What You Are" by Saves The Day
-Screeching Weasel "Emo"
-the last 3 records by D.B.S.
-"Dude Ranch" by Blink 182
-Jimmy Eat World "Clarity"
-pretty much the entire Ani Difranco cataloge
-The Get Up Kids "Something to Write Home About"

Movies? I like all kinds. "Fubar", "Grass", "Who Killed the Electric Car" and "Superbad" are some of my favorites.

Books? I like to read, unfortunately, I'm not that "well read". Enlighten me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Brazil was absolutely stunning. I went there with an organization called "Canada World Youth" in 1999/2000. Amazing and humbling people and places. Such a sense of family and community. GO THERE!

Teach, Learn, Share

I've lived all over Canada. Want to know absolutely anything about Canadian culture? If so, I'm YOUR MAN for Canadiana. This includes (but is not limited to), info on hockey, Canada's inferiority complex with the United States, beer, what the fuck a "Loonie" or a "Twoonie" is, snow, Celine Dion, referendums, bannock, penicilin, lumberjacks, Prime Ministers igloos, etc).
