ABOUT ME

i'm a cultural anthropology student working on bolivia's fascinating social movements, and switching cities (and sometimes countries) every few months for the next couple years. i write about revolutionary change, how protesters claim and control space, how people with multiple visions can work and fight together, and the wide array of visions and ideals that people find to be worth fighting for.

i am also: (a) a veteran of the antiwar, who suspects all strife has the heart as its battlefield; (b) an archivist of subversive tendencies who can remind you in the darkest hours that unknown angels are on the side of the revolution, but who also sees inspiration where most can only see sleepwalking; (c) in love with the world, and constantly exploring forms of joy, creativity & closeness with the people in it; (d) a once-would-have-been techie who has traded nearly all that for words and humans, but still can smile at mechanical perfection behind a cloud-smirched sunset; (e) an overactive traveller trying to find a balance between world and here

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Here's the deal: I'm going to Bolivia to do fieldwork next year, writing about the movements in La Paz, Cochabamba & Sucre. I'm looking forward to hosting creative and/or radical foreigners from time to time there. It will keep me balanced, and encourage me to get out of town and enjoy my across-the-world reality more. Elsewhere, I've played host a lot, but right now I'm just subletting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Has a little bit of CouchSurfing experience (all surfing), but lots of couch surfing experience (as a host to friends of friends and so on). The month on a permaculture farm was definitely the best. Also, my house in Oakland's pull-out couch made for a great sequence of short and medium term visitors from all over.
