I'm an epidemiologist, working for the federal gov't in Ottawa. I've had lots of adventures, but am now happily settled in a tiny village in eastern Ontario. My friends would probably say I'm curious, energetic, determined, and periodically silly

I love to learn new things, and to try to do things for myself - as a result, I built my coffee table, as well as my patio, and rather badly installed my kitchen faucet (I like to try. Don't always succeed as well as I might like). I'm interested in politics and literature, science and medicine, and enjoy puzzles of all kinds

Hiking across the mountains from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan was a high point. Assisting in the recovery period after the 2005 Pakistan earthquake changed my life. These days sitting on my back deck on a warm May morning with the smell of lilacs around me brings me a deep contentment
