Overview
About Me
Hi there, my name is Casey Hartnett. I am an actor, writer, filmmaker and activist from Chicago but lived in New York for 8 years. As an actor and filmmaker, I mostly work in the independent film scene and love a good character-driven story, and love foreign film recommendations! I love meeting new people and learning about cultures and different perspectives on life, which is why storytelling has always been so appealing to me, but most importantly is why traveling is a true love and passion of mine. I am currently traveling around Europe for a couple months while working remote, so it’d be great to meet you along this adventure!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My favorite part about traveling is meeting new people and learning about cultures that are different (even in the slightest bit) from the culture I grew up knowing in Chicago, and now know by living in New York City. I think one of the most important things in life is growing through experiences and learning from others in order to expand our perspectives on the world and life itself. I am constantly learning and always feel so refueled after traveling. I'd love to learn from you and in return I hope I am able to teach you something new, as well!

Music, Movies, and Books
I’m some kind of cinephile and love a good indie film and/or foreign film. Some faves are Short Term 12, Bleu (of the Three Colors Trilogy), anything by Chantal Akerman or Agnes Varda, Portrait of a Lady On Fire, Lady Bird, Girl, Interrupted, The Hours, Little Miss Sunshine, Forrest Gump, Mulholland Drive, A Woman Under the Influence, Fish Tank - and a lot more.
Books: I can talk for hours about Virginia Woolf, Simone de Beauvoir, Sylvia Plath, bell hooks, etc. But a recent fave is All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.
Music: love it all. Particularly some good classic rock, blues, or jazz.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
For 6 years, I ran the NYC Chapter for the organization #HappyPeriod, organizing and facilitating donation drives to collect menstrual products for NYC’s homeless community.
