About Me

*backpacking through Asia right now so unable to host*

I am a 28 year old travel enthusiast with a passion for learning.

I am from the New Orleans area in Louisiana but am currently living in Melbourne, Australia (when I am back in Melbourne I would love to meet you!)

One of my favorites parts of traveling in addition to the people I meet, is the wonderful food I get to try! I feel that I can learn so much about a culture by the way people interact and what foods they are eating. On my rare off days from work, you can usually find me hiking, paddle boarding, enjoying a food festival or exploring one of the many wonderful sites here in Melbourne.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the idea of seeing a new city through the eyes of a local.
Sure, the touristy things can be fun sometimes but I feel the best way to get to know a city and be a true traveler, not just a tourist, is to get to know the people who live there. I love learning about different cultures and experiencing new things. The constant challenge of learning to live my life in new and usual ways is what keeps me motivated to constantly travel.

I have been traveling the past 4 years and am looking forward to finally getting a house of my own so I can return the kindness and host some awesome people!

Interests

I am a "Yes" type of person - especailly if there is an activity I have never done before. I am always down to try new things and explore my surroundings. I feel most at peace when I am outdoors in the mountains. But I also love the chaotic feel I get from busy citites.

I would definitely classify myself as a foodie - but not a food snob. I know that amazing dishes can be found in a corner food stall just as easily as a fine dining establishment.

Some of my favorite things to do include hiking up mountains, or paddle boarding on a lazy river. I really enjoy being part of nature.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm pretty open to everything. My music mood shifts quite frequently, and I'd have to say right now I'm into more happy folk (or at least that's what the playlist on Spotify is called. haha). I'm from Louisiana so any type of Jazz or Blues music really brings a smile to my face. Live music is my obsession though. It doesn't matter what type or where- I love watching talented people with passion perform.

As far as movies & books go, I am a huge Potterhead. It's past the point of being a fan and is a full blown obsession. I like to try and alternate what I read so my mind is constantly expanding. I switch from classics, to young adult fiction, to autobiographies fairly regularly. The last book I finished, The Glass Castle, is an autobiography that I STRONGLY recommend.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I just finished a volunteer program in Nairobi where I was able to funraise enough money to physically build a chicken coop and purchase 30 chickens so the childrens shelter can have eggs and a small income for the next 2 years. It is so cool to leave a lasting impact that helps the community in a sustainable way. I've been fortunate enough to participate in some amazing volunteer programs in Asia. I lived in Jaipur, India for a month and worked at a government run orphanage there. It was such an eye opening and life changing experience. I have also taught novice Buddhist Monks English in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Learning from these boys and developing relationships with them has been indescribable.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can attempt to teach you Cajun cooking, and I am also a certified TEFL instructor if anybody needs help.

I am a yoga teacher and if you are interested I would love to practice together or have discussions about yoga and yoga philosophy.

I enjoy learning about local cultures when I travel so I would enjoy hearing about whatever you love about your city.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my attitude for adventure and my bubbly personality. I would love to discuss travel dreams, and learn tips and tricks from each other. I am a very respectful person and look forward to making connections all over the world.
