Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light

ABOUT ME

Hi!

- My husband and I have lived in Los Angeles most of our lives. I grew up in Orange County and my husband grew up nearby in Pasadena.

- We have 3 sons - our 1st born in 2016 and our twins born in 2019.

- We love hiking, camping, skiing, gardening, cooking, trying new foods, and experiencing different cultures.

- We love adventure! My husband and I traveled to Europe and Armenia for 4 months in 2015. In 2010 I backpacked around the world on my own for 8 months, to Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, East Africa, Peru and Mexico.

PHILOSOPHY

"Be the change you wish to see in the world." -Gandhi
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." -Margaret Mead
"Live simply, that others may simply live." -Anonymous

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now we’re super busy with family obligations but would like to host in the future when our kids are past the baby stage.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had great couchsurfing experiences whether it's staying with kind hosts or meeting up for coffee/drinks when I'm in a new city. I love hosting people, whether they're visiting me in Madrid, DC, Los Angeles or Sacramento.

Interessen

I love anything that involves learning, nature, service and creativity... hiking, drawing, writing, reading, music, juggling, riding my bike, hanging out in coffee shops, exploring museums, cooking, and most importantly connecting with people from diverse cultures.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

My favorite movies are artsy films that make you think about the world in a different way, like American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, Life is Beautiful, Harold and Maude, and Talk to Her (anything by Pedro Almodovar!). I also like slap-stick ones like anything by Monty Python and Mel Brooks, Dumb and Dumber and 40 Year-Old Virgin.

I love most types of music. I especially dig live music, jazz, music in foreign languages, and karaoke. Generally I listen to classic rock, oldies, punk/alternative, music in Spanish and music by singer/song-writers. Favorites include James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Carole King, Grateful Dead, Steve Miller Band, The Who, Joni Mitchell, Juanes, Mana, Selena, and Ella Fitzgerald.

I love reading for fun, and will read most everything- philosophy, classics, historical fiction, existential literature, libros en Espanol, biographies, children's literature, and novels. Favorites include The Power of Now, The Book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maitenance, A Brief History of Nearly Everything, Brave New World, Harry Potter, The Outsider, The House of Spirits, The Mists of Avalon, Biography of Benjamin Franklin, anything by Roald Dahl and David Sedaris, and The Giver.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I went scuba diving in Ambergris Caye in Belize, and got to swim with beautiful fish, sea turtles, manta rays, moray eels and nurse sharks! I also swam with hundreds of dolphins in Kaikoura New Zealand, jumped off a waterfall in Chaing Mai Thailand, swam in the origin of the Nile River in Ethiopia, swam with pink dolphins in the Amazon in Peru, and swam with hundreds of 30-foot whale sharks in Hol Box Mexico. I hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2010, the most difficult physical challenge I've ever accomplished. I've completed a Marathon and an Olympic Triathlon-- both were an incredibly exciting rush!

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I see myself not as a tourist or even a traveler, but a global citizen-- a "vagabond." I learned of this term through the wonderful book, "Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel," by Rolf Potts. It's a lifestyle that encourages simple living, creativity, discovery, and personal/spiritual growth. I encourage ANYONE on this website who hasn't heard of this term to look it up! http://www.vagabonding.net
