About Me

I consider myself someone that constantly looks for new, strong experiences. That's one of the reasons that I do research on religion and love music. Though I consider myself an agnostic, I find in religion and spirituality one of the most profound aspects of human beings.
I also look forward to learning from other people, because I consider that everyone has something to teach. That is why life is an adventure full of discoveries!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would like to know new places and people from different backgrounds. If there is something that I like about traveling is that your path is enriched with the tales you hear, share and live on the road.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love any kind of music that is well composed and has a meaning of its own. I certainly have a big preference for metal and rock music for I've been hearing since I was 5, but I also love classic and world music, among others. Films and video games soundtrack are included too!
Bands: Black Sabbath (best band in the world), Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Mercyful Fate, Exodus, Type O Negative, Pink Floyd, and maaaaaany more.
Genres: Metal, Hard Rock, Stoner/Doom, Folk, World Music, Classical Music, Blues, Jazz, Salsa Dura, New Wave, Chill Out, Vaporwave, Old School Hip Hop, and everything in between.

I like movies that touch somehow cover themes of the human condition, such as existentialism, artificial intelligence, and so on. But I also enjoy a lot equally horror and animated movies alike. I like some anime series too.
Films: The Wicker Man, La Pasión de Michelangelo, In the Name of the Rose, The Possibility of Spirits, Fahrenheit 451, Blade Runner, The Rope, Citizen Kane, Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, L' enfant Sauvage, Zodiac, Eraserhead, The Usual Suspects, Ghost in the Shell (1995), Akira, and many more.

My favorite books are the ones related religion in the social sciences, philosophy and literature. Among the last, I also enjoy horror narrative, and latin american poetry.
Books: Lord of the Flies, The Call of Cthulhu, Rethinking Symbolism, Trilce, Alturas de Macchu Picchu, Utopia, The Social Conquest of Earth, The Mystic Fable, Frankenstein, Ritual and Religion in the Making of Humanity, The Elementary Forms of Religious Life and many, but many more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, I drank ayahuasca, you figure it out. I've also engaged in different spiritual practices like meditation, retreats, psychotropic substances, and participated in praying with different religious groups. I learn a lot from myself when I go through things like these. Plus meeting new people while at it and learn from their experiences is a wonderful thing.
I also was the lead vocalist of a metal band back in Peru. We played thrash metal, covers and own songs. Now I'm singing mostly Latin American folk songs. With metal, I had the chance to feel what collective effervescence is all about. In Budapest, I had the chance to share songs from my region in front of an audience of four continents.
One of the most recent things I have done is drift around Spain for almost 2 months. In that time, I went to metal concerts, did academic stuff, visited one city a day, did Couchsurfing, stayed with great friends, slept on streets, parks, plazas, beaches, and met the coolest people of all in the Camino de Santiago. Going to the ends of the Old World was a great way of encountering with myself.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking Peruvian food, specially sea food. I can teach the secrets of it and how to get the flavour of our cuisine! Plus I like doing artistic herbariums with plants that I find on the road. I can teach how to make them and how the convey messages through them. I would like to learn whatever my host can teach, specially if is music related. Discovering new sounds is one of my favorites learning experiences. Plus, I would like to learn how to cook food from other countries!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach how to cook Peruvian food, sing some good ol' folk tunes, share wonderful music, help with some stuff in the house, and be an overall good company for my host. I can also do an artistic herbarium from plants and flowers I gather around and give it as a souvenir. Just ask me and I'll be ready to help you out with anything I can.
