About Me

For the last few years I've had a full, colourful, happy life in Bristol - a city I was lucky to stumble upon for university, and couldn't bring myself to leave.

In a typical week I can be found ...

- at work (Centre for Sustainable Energy) writing, editing films or designing publicity materials;
- cycling around Bristol, often with a trailer in tow, to deliver surplus food from supermarkets to bellies that need feeding - all as part of magnificent FoodCycle;
- wrapped up in some aerial silks, either in a class or in a tree at the park;
- enjoying the sights, upbeat sounds, social action and company offered by Bristol and its friendly inhabitants.

But my adventurous side is calling for a change, and so I'm crossing the pond to explore The Americas. I'd like to spend a lot of time amongst big trees, rock formations and learn about growing food, eco building and sustainable ways of living on WWOOFing and Workaway projects.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There are so many places I want to explore, but I want to see them as they really are, not just through tourist-goggles. Locals know the best haunts, where the magical scenery is, and company is always nice when travelling alone - whether it's the company of hosts or of others surfing the couch-waves.

I haven't had a living situation where I could host others (although I do live in an open house with lots of visitors), but I know the time will come. And I plan to live somewhere brilliant enough for journeyers to want to visit.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music ... some of my favourites: Beirut, Sigur Ros, Bon Iver, Caravan Palace, Future Islands, The War On Drugs, Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes, Regina Spektor, Kate Bush, The Beatles, The Stone Roses

Books: anything that teaches me about different countries and cultures, especially if written like fiction.

I can't recommend the documentary series 'Human' more highly.

A couple of memorable films are 'Science of Sleep' and 'What's eating Gilbert Grape ?'

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Work (fun?) in a national park on the small Caribbean island of Statia. I was surveying a rare bird. Brilliantly it lives in a forested volcano crater meaning I did lots of beautiful hikes - for work! Other tasks included night time turtle patrols on the beach, species monitoring (sea birds and orchids), trail maintenance with a machete, botanical garden maintenance. Pretty dreamy ...

What I Can Share with Hosts

Food! I live a in vegetarian house share and have been inspired by everyone's varied, adventurous cooking.

Stories, conversation, a good listening ear, chitter chatter or a non-nonsensical natter.
