About Me

I live downtown Brasov (in the middle of Romania), I've been doing coachsurfing in 2010 and was back on CouchSurfing early 2022 with the initial hope of helping some Ukrainian refugees. I ended up with couchsurfers all over, all kinds but Ukranian. I have a spare room which sometimes is occupied by couchsurfers, then a campaign bed and some floor space. I had 5 people one time last year, but mostly 1 or 2.

Strictly about me..
I have some friends and a family, mainly located in Bucharest, my home town.
Brasov is my grandparents' adopted city, and I feel like home here, too.
I generally live by own rules.. meaning life decisions, work.
Since 4 years ago, I also live by my dog's rules, but that's another story.
(Pets are welcome.. dogs, cats)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To help, share experiences and have fun

Interests

I like rock climbing and derivatives (trad, adventure, indoor, rope solo)
I also like people, languages, stories, art and creativity, food and drink, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a book that inspired me, by a Belgian called Nicholas Bouvier (it's about two brave guys travelling to the east). I used to say this when I was not really reading books. But I started with adventure books.
I have recently restarted reading (in 2024), after a lifetime break, and now I can read just about anything, particulalrly novels, as I joined a reading club. My first book there was a historical novel of 750 pages, which is set in Middle Age Romania, which I not only finished, but loved throughout.

My fav movies are "The Turin Horse" by a Hungarian director called Bela Tarr which is a philosophical, simplistic movie, "Broken Flowers" by Jim Jarmush with Bill Murray which is a witty middle age comedy, and Sonbahar by Turkish director Özcan Alper, which is a ethnical drama with lots of traditional music from North-Turkey and Georgia. As for action movies, I used to like Jason Bourne movies - a more modern and less romantic version of James Bond.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've discovered wildlife in my own hometown Bucharest, with birds and small animals in 2010 when it was not a thing.
I've moved kids from one highschool to another to talk about their problems/identity within a conceptual show I created together with them back in 2014. I used to like to have a social impact.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like languages a lot, as a means of communication. I am an English interpreter from time to time, but I'm also interested in other languages.

I like sports/games
- climbing (indoor and outdoor), fitness/gym
- mountain or hill climbing/hiking
- summer games like basketball, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, football.
- winter sports like ski, snowboard, sledge, ice-skating

I am also into practical skills, I do all kinds of jobs from welding to tree cutting as side jobs.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Food, time, jokes
A talk about anything, really.
Short city tours, mountain hikes.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey
