I'm currently working as a freelance writer so I get quite a lot of spare time as well as the possibility to work from home. I used to hike a lot but exchanged feet for wheels, as I've been using the bike for 99 percent of the activities for the past 6 years. A friend of mine who's also a bike maniac joked that our pace measures only 20 centimeters (the distance between the pedals). My girlfriend Stefana also got the bike virus a year and a half ago, so we can often be seen cycling through the city or touring in mostly rural or wild places.

I try to do as much as I can on my own, and that includes cooking. While I can't raise animals or grow vegetables (yet), I try to stay away as much as possible from processed food. I bake bread and cook pretty much everything, from traditional food to more or less exotic experiments. I never say no to a cold beer (especially when it's coupled with good company), although I haven't managed to brew my own beverage so far.

Speaking of doing things on my own, I also enjoy doing repairs (not so much when it comes to home appliances) or improvising, especially when that saves me some money as well as a tiring trip to the shops where most people buy expensive stuff they most likely don't need.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We have been hosting people through Warmshowers(.org) for more than half a year and decided to expand our horizons a bit since bicycle touring might be a bit too restrictive for guests as well as ourselves.

Interests

I've been enthusiastic about photography for the past two years and I'm planning to make it a full-time occupation pretty soon. Since I love traveling, I also get the excuse to shoot more and try to capture different aspects of life as they are.

Perhaps the most important thing I am interested in is to achieve self-sufficiency for Stefana and myself. We'd love to see as much of the world as possible, preferably on the bikes. We often go touring this way, meaning we mostly wildcamp and cook our food. That means there are no transportation fees, just two trustworthy bikes to carry us anywhere.

Music, Movies, and Books

I was raised with the 70s rock/progressive, so that's something I'd listen to every day. I also enjoy jazz/fusion, blues and just about anything that has technical/instrumental into it, whether it is electric, acoustic or more exotic.

I mostly enjoy older movies and all the latest productions are not really on my list.

I don't really read conventional books, but I love absorbing any kind of information related to science, society and the world in general. The good news is that if you're an avid reader, my girlfriend Stefana has read more books than I thought I could count, so you definitely have someone to talk to regarding these arts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In high school I used to hike alone in the Romanian Carpathians. I have managed to see most major mountain groups in my country.

A few years ago I cycled for over 230 kilometers in one go on a touring bike loaded with gear. It took me 16 hours and a half to get home.
