About Me

***A personalised message would be nice! I'd like to know that you've read my profile and to see that we have something in common.***

*I only have room for one couch surfer at my place*

I'm a friendly and active person, and I like learning about other cultures. I spent a lot of time travelling through and living in Asia in my 20s, and now expanding my horizons to other continents. I love trying to understand the world; I want to know how and why everything works (or doesn't work).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm interested in meeting new people and getting some inspiration to travel - if I'm stuck in one place (while I'm working), I like the idea of at least being able to meet travelers day-to-day. I love the idea of reciprocal generosity, and of sharing and trust and kindness with people you've never met.

Interests

Playing and listening to music, singing (I'm in 2 choirs - hoping for a third), long distance running, cycling, cooking (meat-free), board games, origami, nerdy word/grammar discussions, sustainability, learning, meeting new people, novel experiences, and gardening.

Music, Movies, and Books

Folk; blues; bluegrass; swing; jazz; soul; anything with vocal harmonies. Longtime favorites include Ryan Adams, The National, Louis and Ella, CW Stoneking, M Ward, The Decemberists, Old Crow Medicine Show, Bright Eyes etc.
Arthouse movies (generally); Tarantino; Gondry; inexplicable soft spot for Point Break (the original)
Orwell; Roald Dahl; David Mitchell; some non-fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Too many to list...

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about English grammar (I used to be an English teacher). Hit me up with obscure questions about third conditionals, and I'll do my best to explain. I'd love to learn about your country and culture and customs and foods, and would be super happy to share experiences over a local beverage.

Not sure what else I can offer - I'm quite good at painting people's fingernails? Give me a heads-up and I'll bring the colour of your choice.

Or, let's go for a run together!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my stories and my lust for life. I'd love to cook for you or help you out with anything around the house.

And if you're staying with me, you can share my home! You're welcome to play my instruments and tinker in the garden and wade your way through my pantry of mysterious ingredients. Also, I would love to sing with you - hit me up for some musical times!

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, China, Denmark, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Viet Nam, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In
