About Me

My favorite activities are reading, cooking, playing card games (pinochle is my favorite), hiking, and riding my bike. I LOVE learning languages, but except for my Russian, everything's rusty and dusty.

I am the worst at checking my email (cs gets buried amongst all the store ad spam). Plus my schedule is all kinds of crazy. I apologize in advance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been surfing for years now and even more I love the community groups and events. Hosting is a great way to meet interesting people when I can't travel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experience was in Spain, and it was incredible. Thanks to the community pages, I made my way to a small back-room/basement Flamenco club, partook in a mountain-top potluck, and watched the world cup with fellow fortuitous travelers.

Interests

Prehistory, languages, literature, culture, cooking and music (I wish I could play an instrument)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Lots. I suppose I lean towards folksy rock and indie from the 90s-2000s plus an assortment of alternative, punk, hip hop, blues, jazz, some metal and classic country

Books! I love fiction. I tend towards snobby literary fiction, fantasy or sci-fi.

Movies... I am far from a film buff. I watch too much TV, but I never watch anything zeitgeisty at the appropriate time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Archaeology has taken me to lots of great places. The most breathtaking was a monumental site in southwest Georgia. I was living in a village that probably never sees tourists, in a home with wonderful Georgian hosts. I climbed a mountain and floated down the river to our dig house. I also ended up in a Soviet hospital there, which was amazing in a kind of terrifying way.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach English. Some Russian.
I can teach you how to make pie or chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.
I can tell you a lot about war and gender in the Iron Age on the Eurasian steppe (you probably don't want me to though).

I want to learn languages!!
I'd love to learn anything, although practicing what I've forgotten of Spanish is at the top of the list.
I also want to learn how to make/build stuff.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love cooking for people.
