About Me

I don't always do well with about me sections but I will try my best :) I'm originally from Cape Town South Africa and I lived in America for 2 years and have recently returned home after living in China for almost 5 years. I graduated from Film School and as much as I wanted to start working immediately I also had a sudden urge to travel and see the world. I knew that I wanted to do so many things before I finally settled down and I then decided to move to America to work as an au pair which is where I realized I wanted to go into a field where I worked with children and then decided to move to China to teach English. I soon transitioned to becoming a Kindergarten teacher and I will be starting my PGCE course in September in order to further my studies and qualifications to allow me to travel and teach all over the world. I have decided to take the next few months off to travel as a 30th birthday present to myself :)

I'm an extremely open minded person who loves to have a good sit down and talk to people about absolutely everything. I love hearing different perspectives and love hearing people's life stories. Most people will describe me as someone who is always positive and happy and has a bit of a doughnut addiction :) I cannot go anywhere without finding a doughnut shop and trying out new doughnuts. I'm a caring and loving person who will always help others as much as I can. I believe that laugher is the best medicine :) I'm an easy going person who tries not to sweat the small stuff and rather focus on the here and now but also realizing that you have to have the future in mind :)

I'm a massive outdoorsy person and I will always find the time to get outside and enjoy what nature has to offer. I'm always up for a good hike or swim or kayaking; anything that gets me outside. I am a very active person but I do still love to just relax on my couch and catch up on movies or series.

I love meeting new people and making new friends and my friends always joke about how I can go anywhere and manage to somehow end up having a long conversation with just about anyone. And because of me always being a super outgoing and talkative person I have managed to make the most incredible friends and even discover that some of the strangers and I have mutual friends and it is in that instance where I am absolutely in awe of how small the world is! And it is for this reason that I want to make as many connections as possible because you never know how you are connected. And it is not always the connections but it is also meeting new people who share their knowledge of great places to see and great things to do as well. I've had the best times at places and doing things because of recommendations from people I have met in the place that I visited.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I decided to join Couchsurfing because I have a friend who is part of the couchsurfing community and she invited me to a few meet ups and get togethers so I've met the most amazing couchsurfers! The people were incredibly interesting and so welcoming and I decided that I wanted to become a part of this amazing community where everyone was accepted and welcomed with open arms. To me it's a space for people to share any kind of knowledge with each other in a way where you expand your knowledge of different people from different backgrounds and who live completely different lives. All the people kind of become like family where everyone is supportive and care for each other.

And I honestly love the idea of people being so welcoming to strangers and helping them travel in a completely different manner to the standard method of traveling. I feel that it becomes more raw and unique and you're able to get a local's opinion on the place you are visiting. I am hoping to move to Egypt once I am done with my travels and then can finally open my home to fellow couchsurfers and support my fellow travelling community :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a big fan of all kinds of music! I always warn my friends when they drive with me that my playlists are extremely random simply because I've always got a mixture of music. I'm open to everything and love getting any recommendations for music :) currently obsessed with Sylvan Esso, Alabama Shakes and Highly Suspect and also been listening to a lot of Interpol again.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I moved to America to live with a host family for two years :) This was where my love for travel started and got me to want to go absolutely anywhere and everywhere and eat almost everything :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

My bubbly personality and a lot of laughs :) I love meeting new people and hearing their stories and sharing my experiences that I have had. As I'm from South Africa I've always got a lot to share about a different cultures and communities and just what life is like there.I also make a lovely cup of coffee and know my way around the oven so you can expect a few cookies and baked treats :) I can also share my love for cleanliness by helping around in anything that the host needs. I also love animals and wouldn’t mind looking after any pets. Definitely love a good animal cuddle :)
