About Me

What's to say about me....?

41 years old French Canadian girl. Easy going and curious about life in general.

I am a discreet person, not taking a lot of place when I enter a room, but I am very sociable and I love to get to know new people. I like long conversations about all and anything, but I am also perfectly comfortable with silence.

I have had my heavy partying period when I was younger, so I am not looking for that during my trips. A wild night once in a while would be fine with me, it can always be fun, but I'd rather be more tranquile, and stick to a glass of wine and a good conversation far from the loud speakers....

I have a true interest in Denmark (some of my friends call it a disease, but the doctors haven't diagnosed me with anything yet!) Not just in Copenhagen, the Little Mermaid, Lego Land and Tivoli Gardens.

I want to see real life in Denmark, not the tourists' usual tour. That is in good part why I want to use CS as much as possible. To meet people, eat in restaurants that are not picked from travelling guides and not sleep in generic hotel rooms.

If you want to host me and show me around, I'll be happy to follow you. But if you are busy or just not in the mood for sightseeing, I will do just fine on my own. I have my to-see list, and I am very flexible as to adding points to it along my trip.

I love surprises, just any nice surprise, small or big, except people knocking at my door without being invited or at least letting me know in advance. My home is a cocoon I cherish, and I expect people to respect. Likewise, I consider other people's homes to be somewhat sacred. So you can be assured I will respect your space. I think it is pretty amazing that people welcome travelers like me in their day to day life.

I love all animals, so all the better if you have a dog or a cat, or a turtle, or a bird, or many of them!

I'll keep adding information to my profile as days go on, but if you have any question, please drop me a note... It will be a pleasure to write back!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have discovered CouchSurfing in May 2016. For my first visit to Denmark, it was the ideal way to cut on costs and add interresting experiences to my journey around the country. I absolutely loved it, and hope my hosts also enjoyed the time shared together.

In March 2018, I'll turn 40.

I've been to Denmark three times already, but I'm far from tired of spending time in that amazing part of Vikingland. To celebrate this life milestone, I want to arrange an amazing trip to all and every corner of my beloved DK.

But I'll need help.

If you'd like to host me and show around your little corner of Denmark, just contact me. I don't know exactly when I'll leave Montréal, but I'd like to travel in May again, since last time I tried that time of year, the weather was so beautiful (I am not setting my hopes too high, don't worry) and there weren't too many tourists around yet.

My ultimate goal is to meet people all along my trip that are available and interrested in making me discover their city/town/village, and all of the less than touristic side of them.

So far, I visited Copenhagen (of course), Møn, Odense, Svendborg, Bagenkop, Aarhus, Viborg, Hobro, Esbjerg, Ribe, Aalborg, and Skagen. I'd be glad to visit those places again, but I'd also be delighted to go to where I haven't been before!

This is still at the project stage, but I want to have time to exchange a bit with the different people I'll meet along the way if this actually works out. So if you are interrested, or even just curious, please send me a little note!

Interests

I like the little pleasures of life.

I love to blog (feel free to come and visit me on https://cyranny.com and/or https://cyrannyblog.wordpress.com - a lot of shenanigans, but it will give you a little more about me), and write in general, although I really don't take myself seriously.

I really don't know what to write here, because I am curious about a lot of things, and I to get to know new people, share experiences, and try new stuff...

I also like to challenge myself...

  • animals
  • cats
  • dogs
  • wine
  • partying
  • traveling
  • socializing
  • blogging
  • backpacking
  • teaching
  • sightseeing

Music, Movies, and Books

My tastes are super eclectic....

In my favorite list of tunes, on my IPod, I have some Cat Stevens, some Skrillex, some Nick og Jay, some Edith Piaf... You see what I mean by eclectic! But I have one band that I couldn't do without now... Mew.

I like pretty much all genres of books, although I have to admit I haven't had much time for reading lately. My biggest achievement, reading-wise? Dostoïevki's The Brothers Karamazov... My favorite author? I'd like to say my friend, Philipa Day, but she'd say I am biased! Otherwise, Amélie Nothomb is a long time favorite of mine. I had her book "Attentat" many years ago on Christmas Eve... The next morning, I had read it all and was addicted to Amélie!

Movies... Again, very eclectic tastes... But I like what is foreign and I tend to stay away from movies that lay on budget more than talent and a good story. I don't watch movies just to be entertained... Lately I have been interested in Danish cinema, because it it Danish, because it helps me practice, and because of Mads Mikkelsen... I'm sorry, not a groupie kind of girl in general, but he definately makes me weak in the knees.

Each year, I attend the Montreal Film Festival... 2 weeks of movies from all around the world. Paradise! Documentaries, short films, chefs d'oeuvre from everywhere... Name it! A lot of fun each time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It might sound silly, but I would have to say "booking my first airplane ticket for Copenhagen".

As a younger woman, I used to travel a lot, and my parents had used me and my brother to not being in the same place for a long period of time... (we never stayed in the same place more that a year or two). I enjoyed my freedom and was always ready for the next adventure, big or small.

Time tamed me, I guess. Or so was my impression. But inside, my need for traveling, learning and discovering was just on hold.

So when I finally decided to get back on the horse after too many years of being focused on working, paying the bills and keeping life simple, I think I gave myself the greatest gift!
