About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Walk without rhythm & you won't attract the worm

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Cat, now on my third big trip. I like to discover each new place for myself (generally on foot or bike) rather than mission about ticking off sights on a checklist, I'm equally as chilled out when it comes to living arrangements. Love life, dogs, food, music, art, architecture, languages.

PHILOSOPHY

Walk without rhythm & you won't attract the worm

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

After 29 countries, I'm a virgin couchsurfer! Help me rectify this ridiculousness, & hopefully I will be inspired to host other surfers myself!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Interests

I don't own a car, I'm all for pedal power. I love the convenience, efficiency & joy of riding a bike, and I love experiencing how different cities across the globe encourage & integrate riders safely & effectively. Early this year I volunteered for Bikefest, promoting cycling culture in Melbourne. I've also worked in a bicycle shop for the last 6 years so if you need any repairs done, just ask.

I respect and value historical legacies within cultures, but I'm equally, if not more interested in how their hiers interact with & specifically how the artists, architects, politicians of today grow that legacy, use it to shape new expressions of identity & purpose.

I believe that the best barometer of the mood & energy of the youth of a city is graffiti. I find it disconcerting when there is none..

Music, Movies, and Books

The Language Instinct by Steven Pinker.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I look back through a veritable kaleidoscope of colourful travel experiences, here are but two:

Florence, July 2010. Already soaked to the bone, taking refuge from a huge downpour in a church on the hill above the city; Gregorian chants echoing within its austere marble interior, thunder roaring outside & then minutes later, in a perfect crescendo, the church gets struck by lightning..

Yucatán Peninsula, December 2010. Curled up on a blanket on a Carribean beach until daybreak watching shooting stars whiz about like fireworks, I later found out we were actually witnessing the heaviest meteor shower in years..

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Qatar, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
