Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My favorite part of traveling is meeting people who are either travelers like me or who live in the place where I'm visiting and can give me a totally new perspective. I love staying in hostels for that reason - much easier to start a conversation with someone when you've been sharing a kitchen and a bathroom for three days - but couchsurfing provides a more personal opportunity to get to know someone than hostels.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is currently I Served the King of England, adapted from Bohumil Hrabal's fantastic novel, but there are several close runner-ups where favorite movies are concerned...My favorite book is probably Dostoyevsky's The Idiot, but there are so many others that I love nearly as much, especial Milan Kundera's The Book of Laughter and Forgetting. I've also been on a real Baldwin kick recently, and David Foster Wallace will always be near and dear to me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am more than happy to cook - I can accomodate most dietary restrictions easily, since I am vegetarian and my close friend is gluten-free - and I'm also happy to clean up, whether it's dishes or vacuuming or scrubbing down the bathroom or anything else.
