About Me

CURRENT MISSION

After 20 years in this beautiful place, I will be leaving Aspen as of April 1st, 2019 and moving to another great town in Colorado - after first spending April in Uruguay (hopefully with a bit of surfing), aka the start of my retirement in some far-flung locale! I am hoping to spend the next year working a bit and traveling a lot. The world is a big place, we all come at our existence in different ways. But at the core, most of us are pretty similar.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To really interact with other cultures, and to experience things through its inhabitants point of view. I have recently re-discovered how wonderful hostels are. They are a great way to meet people from other places. And are a good reminder of how small the world can be, if you let it. But I also want to meet people from the place I am visiting! They are a great reminder of why I'm visiting in the first place.

Interests

Pretty laid back, not a big drinker or big crowd person. I like the back streets versus the main tourist attractions (though most of them should probably be seen also.) I like all types of films and most music (except rap and techo give me a headache.). I like to visit churches/places of worship when I travel -- I think they offer some of the best examples of a countries history and art. And I am definitely a museum goer.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - pretty middle of the road pop. But go through phases.

Movies - anything, except slash em up horror. Honest. Three hour German period film followed by X-men. Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

Books: Big Murakami fan - Wind Up Bird Chronicles holds a very special place. An obscure Alice Hoffman book (her first one). I am an ex-book editor. I am in a book group, and most everything we read I appreciate. I get a kick out of Shakespeare.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

9 months teaching English in Ukraine. I spent a semester in Rome in college and managed to visit most all Western European countries. Countries noted below are those I've visited as an adult.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Someone who appreciates the beauty and reality of your lives, no matter what it is. Someone eager to learn about your city and country. I am extremely tidy. And self-sufficient. And easy going. An okay cook who is excited to try to cook new things (if you don't mind being a guinea pig.)

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Mexico, Panama, Scotland, Uruguay

Countries I’ve Lived In

Italy, Turkey, Ukraine, United States
