About Me
***We are currently undergoing renovations and are not available to host at the moment; sorry!***
Cat, Matt, Emily, & June. And Cato.
After a long break from Couchsurfing due to babies, we are back up and running. Now with two kids!
CAT: A freelance photographer and book editor working from home.
MATT: A family doctor (GP).
EMILY: Four years old. Aspirations include learning to read and being old enough to stay up late and eat ice cream for dinner.
JUNE: One and a half. Aspirations include doing everything her sister does, falling less often, and having everyone's attention all the time.
CATO: Dog. Large. Friendly. Wishes things were nice and quiet like they were before all these kids turned up.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We have slept on various couches, floors, train stations, a dining room table in Germany, a hillside in Scotland, mountaintop huts in Swaziland -- we'd like to pay back the world for the kindness we've experienced in our travels.
We also are a bit stuck in terms of ability to travel these days -- two kids'll do that to you. Consequently, we like to bring people from different places to us!
Interests
CAT: Taking pretty pictures, ice cream, sunshine, Ravelry, postcrossing, bookcrossing, loose leaf tea, red wine, the colour green, roller derby, sewing, gardening, cooking, crocheting amigurumi, bookmarks, classical history and etymology, lemurs.
MATT: Sailing, medicine, pie, astronomy, BBQing, music, hammock naps, cognitive science, eating, triceratopses. And eating triceratopses.
BOTH: Board games, road trips, geocaching, travel of all kinds, camping, hiking, biking, zombie movies, scuba diving, skiing.
EMILY: Rocks, her scooter, the park, Guns N Roses.
JUNE: Primarily muffins.

Music, Movies, and Books
CAT: Love zombie movies. Love Charles Dickens, Stephen King, Michael Chabon, Rudyard Kipling, Neil Gaiman, Wally Lamb, and Robert Graves. Love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, film noirs, Slumdog Millionaire, The Man Who Wasn't There, The Power of One. Love Labyrinth (David Bowie was my childhood love). Love music in general -- not picky.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
CAT: I have been very lucky to have been able to travel a lot for my years, and I can't pick one experience out of the lot. But I will never, ever forget having an impromptu singalong with a bunch of boys in a remote mountain village in Lesotho. We taught them "Home for a Rest" and "O Canada" and they sang several folk songs, the Lesotho national anthem, and taught us the word for "fart" in Basotho (it's "sitututu" if you're wondering; very onomatopoeic).
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach photography, cooking, crocheting, sewing. Working on learning to play the ukulele. Would love to learn more about gardening from anyone who can help me not kill my plants! I really like skill shares and barters.
