Overview
About Me
I'm a chilled-out history nerd and teacher with an obsession with craft beer, a love of theatre and a passion for travel. I enjoy encountering people from different places and cultures - some of my fondest memories from travelling involve random encounters with strangers on trains, in hostels and cafes. I'm highly independent and love to explore alone, but also enjoy sharing these experiences with others.
I've moved around a decent amount, growing up accross the UK, US and New Zealand. I'm currently pretty settled in Melbourne, where I've been for 8 years.
Highly Queer friendly.
Triple vaxxed.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I got into it when my ex husband and I were living in Edinburgh in 2011. We had awesome experiences both hosting and surfing.
Life changes (and the dreaded 'vid) mean I've been uninvolved for a while now, but I'm dusting off the cobwebs to stockpile karma ahead of a big European trip in 2023
My house is unfortunately not available currently to host, but I am currently on a 6 month hiatus from full-time work, so drop me a line if you'd like someone to show you some good spots, or just chill out over a beer.
Interests
Beer. Good, crafted and interesting beer. Many of my travel location decisions have been made on where I can go to sample the widest range of new beers.
Books. I feel naked without one.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a horror movie addict, and also love dry satirical humour and well written drama.
As for books, I'm pretty obsessed with fantasy (especially sword and sorcery stuff) and historical fiction.
Podcasts make up the main chunk of my audio - comedy, history, true crime and horror
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Pompeii. What moved me the most were the streets. The buildings were crumbled and ruins, but the streets were just as they had been when they were last walked on.
A late-night solo search for a hostel in Naples at age 18.
Summertime alfresco dinners under the trees in a family friends' property in Bayonne
Our trip home through Thailand and Malaysia
Teach, Learn, Share
When looking for somewhere to eat/drink in a major city, find the most touristy place and walk as far away from it as you can.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I've hosted a decent number of people, so I understand what it's like to invite strangers into your home. Accordingly, I am respectful and well behaved and are happy to adapt myself to my host's mood - equally happy to spend an evening chatting as I am curled up with my own books. Love it when a host has the time/inclination to show me *their* version of the city, but absolutely do not require my hand held.
