About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I run my own business, trying to make it easier for people to go on adventures!

ABOUT ME

I am a 27 year old Scot who loves to travel and meet people. I love to make friends and see new things. My favourite thing is finding out what other people love and are enthusiastic about and then getting enthusiastic about.

"To speak truly, few adult persons can see nature. Most persons do not see the sun. At least they have a very superficial seeing. The sun illuminates only the eye of the man, but shines into the eye and the heart of the child. The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirit of infancy even into the era of manhood." Ralph Waldo Emerson

I try to look at the world through the eyes of a child, because then everything is full of wonder.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is... trying to enjoy everything the world throws at me, regardless of whether I should or not.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to sleep on people's couches, floors and beds, hear their stories and learn as much as I can about how to be in this world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed and hitch-hiked my way through Canada and the US when I was 22 and had an amazing time. Last year, I cycled from Venice to Xi'an in China, along the old Silk Road and made some incredible friends along the way.

Interests

I love to surf, to swim, to run, to play and to just enjoy life. My favourite day would be spent skiing and then surfing and then an enormous meal with friends playing cards and laughing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read and listen to music. Difficult to nail down, but I'd say two of my favourite books are The Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl and Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. I think the bands I like to listen to the most are Sigur Ros and Bon Iver, but I love to listen to all kinds of stuff, from opera to cheesy pop.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On January 1st 2015, a friend and I set off from Venice, in Italy, on a six month bike trip, taking us through Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia as well as across most of China. It was the most incredible thing I've ever done, with highlights including being robbed by the Georgian Mafia, getting chased through the Turkish Mountains by hordes of angry sheepdogs, swimming in ice-cold canals in Uzbekistan and watching lightning storms roll across the deserts in the Taklamakan in China.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn how to be a better person that I am and I think couchsurfing is the best way to do that. I am pretty handy with DIY and am a fairly good cook, I love showing off my skills in the kitchen, making some delicious bunny chow or an enormous roast dinner. I love learning new recipes and spices how to use them and finding out about things I've never heard of. I also have a lot of stories, some of them sad, some dumb, some funny - I love telling and hearing stories.
