About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get this show on the road

ABOUT ME

I live in Seattle, Washington. I enjoy good company, good music, good food, good life in general. As of now I'm a grad student.

I'm a vegetarian. I love playing music.

PHILOSOPHY

“The most solid advice for a writer is this, I think: Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat, and when you sleep really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.”

-William Saroyan

Interests

I've played guitar for about 10 years. I do some singer-songwriter stuff. You can check out my music here: http://www.soundcloud.com/chrisblado

I do a little black and white photography. I shoot with an old medium-format camera.

I like camping, hiking, rock climbing, etc. I'm hoping to get into mountaineering.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lots. I'm an aspiring film nerd. Love classic films, French New Wave, German Expressionism, etc. My favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut, Sam Lipsyte, William Saroyan, George Saunders, Dave Eggers, David Foster Wallace, Wells Tower, Barry Hannah, Raymond Carver, and many more. Favorite music is too many to list. Lately I've been getting into Talk Talk's last few albums, the Talking Heads, and Thin White Duke -era Bowie. Also the new Grizzly Bear album is really good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I jumped off a huge cliff into a water-filled gorge in Ithaca, NY. I also drove through the Utah desert listening to nothing but Fergie's album for several days. Also I hiked a portion of the Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainier in cheap loafers and a rolling backpack. I find these to be equally amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like hearing about people's personal experiences traveling. It inspires me.

I'm a pretty good musician and a decent cook, but I'm always interested in learning new ways of doing both.
