About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Promoting humanistic organizational models.

ABOUT ME

My life is dedicated to social progress. I do my best to live a life of integrity. I pay a great deal of attention to what I buy and eat. Basically I aim to be the change I want to see in the world. I see fundamental social progress coming down to this at its core. The bulk of the factors that influence our happiness are related to our interaction with other human beings, whether in a work, school, family, or social setting. I believe that if we were all to live lives of true integrity, our social problems would be solved--I really do believe that. If people would start treating each other with the same respect they believe they themselves deserve, the world would be a much happier place. If people were to stop compromising their values in school and the workplace, the world would be a much happier place.

If you meet me you'll probably notice that I like to ask a lot of questions, make jokes, and laugh. I would describe myself as both mellow and excitable (I hope that makes sense).

My interests section below is ancient. However, I don't want to update it because it would feel like I'm deleting a piece of my past. This personal description section was previously blank, so there was no issue there. -5/5/2012

PHILOSOPHY

Live with integrity, all the way around. Attempt to contribute as much good as possible through your actions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed, hosted, and have been very involved with the local CS community in San Diego. I've met a good number of my close friends through the San Diego gatherings.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've always had positive experiences surfing or hosting. I'm very grateful for the existence of this community. It's enriched my life in various ways.

Interests

I love the world, I love humans, and what's most important to me is doing whatever I can to contribute to making the world of better place. My main passion is for the social sciences, but I am getting more and more into the arts and learning how to add that into the mix. My first artistic interests were music (You can check out my music @ myspace.com/abarismusic) and poetry, but now I'm really into visual art and film too. My other hobbies include meeting new people, going on road trips, traveling, going to the beach, bodyboarding, going to awesome clubs, exploring the wilderness, taking pictures (You can check some of those out here), playing sports, running, and working out.

Music, Movies, and Books

FILMS: My favorite film of all time is "A Thousand Clowns." If you haven't seen it, please do. In addition I generally enjoy thoughtful independent films and documentaries.

MUSIC: My music tastes are pretty diverse. Slow romantic stuff from Josh Groban, hard trance from Cosmic Gate, Alphazone, Flutlicht, DJ Isaac and others from the early 2000s trance scene, electro house from around 2009-10 (especially Electrixx), anything FUNKY (George Clinton, Rick James, etc), indy electro rock such as Stars, Florence and the Machine, and Wishes and Thieves, electro such as La Roux, Imogen Heap, and Miike Snow, plenty of oldies but goodies, hip hop with good beats that isn't promoting pimping, drugs, domestic abuse, murder, and materialism, even poppy stuff like NSync.

BOOKS: "Culture and Anarchy" by Matthew Arnold, "Teaching as a Subversive Activity" by Neil Postman and Charles Weingartner, "The Tower and the Abyss" by Erich Kahler, "A Society Fit for Human Beings" by E.M. Adams, "The Righteous Mind" by Jonathan Haidt, "Conscious Business" by Fred Kofman, "The Having of Wonderful Ideas and Other Essays" by Eleanor Duckworth, just about anything written by the great social critic and theorist André Gorz.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed San Jacinto Mountain by myself when the trails were covered by snow. I had to make my own path and basically crawl the whole way up at a 45 degree angle.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach? Learn? Share? Yes, let's do a lot of that!
