Overview
About Me
I am now back at home in Belgium after two and a half years in Myanmar which has been a life changing experience.
CURRENT MISSION
Keep learning new things.
Make the most out of life.
PHILOSOPHY
- Everything happens for a reason.
- "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain
- "Life is too important to be taken seriously" - Oscar Wilde
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Joined CS in 2013. Hosted a nice Taiwanese girl in Belgium a few weeks after joining...
Hosted several couchsurfers when I was living in Yangon (Burma) .
I am a more experienced member of another hospitality network through which I hosted and was hosted by lots of different people.
Always a nice experience and some of them have remained good friends.
When I travel on my own, I much prefer to stay with people to get a glimpse of what life is like in the country/city I'm in. Even though I do try to see the main sights of a place, I am more and more interested in seeing what the daily life of the local people is like so I enjoy getting lost in areas or neighbourhoods which are not particularly touristy.
And when I am at home, I like to host people and show them around. It's always nice to hear other people's stories and views on life.
Interests
Meeting people, discovering new places, learning languages, nature, bird watching, hiking, jogging, organic gardening, yoga, meditation, etc.
I'm happier in a garden or a forest than in a noisy bar or disco but I do like to go out for a drink or two (or three) with some friends.
Going out for a movie or a play or concert makes a nice change too!

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a big fan of Kate Bush (shows my age!!) and also of the Smiths and Morrissey. And also Bjork, and Muse, and Depeche Mode, and traditional Celtic music, and Spanish music, and....
'Tales of the City' series (by Armistead Maupin) is probably the only books I've read several times. Funny to see how different it is to read a same book when you're 25, 35 or 40...
Can't really say they're my favourite movies but 'Dogville', 'Breaking the Waves' and 'Dancer in the Dark' (all by Lars Von Trier) have made a big impression on me... Can't really explain why...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Get my first tattoo for my 40th birthday.... I suppose it was a way of proving myself I was not a boring old fart yet. I certainly don't feel like I'm over 40 ...
Teach, Learn, Share
I like to learn new things. Learning languages has always been a hobby for me though I realize that it is getting more and more difficult with age ! :-)
I'd love to learn how to cook.
If you'd like to know a bit more about Myanmar, I try to upload photos regularly on my public facebook profile : https://www.facebook.com/CedricEnBirmanie
The comments are in French but you don't really need them to appreciate the incredible beauty of Myanmar.
