About Me

I'm in my late 20's pursuing a Masters in Urban Studies, where I'll live in 4 different cities across Europe over 2 years. I'm currently in Brussels, Belgium. I worked as a design researcher and consultant for 4 years in Toronto, Canada where I basically helped companies and governments make sure their services were designed around the people who use those services. My goal is to design more just and equitable cities, by putting people (especially those who are under-represented) first.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'll likely be traveling around quite a bit over the next 2 years and would love to get to know some locals in each place I travel to! Also traveling on a budget, of course, so couchsurfing is a win-win :)

(I'm sorry I have no references, nor a verified account—I created this account in 2015 when I was living in Vienna but never used it in the end, so am only just starting now, November 2021.)

Interests

I didn't do theatre professionally but strongly considered it and have been quite involved in community theatre in Canada. A Canadian West Coaster at heart, I love going on multi-day hikes in the alpine, road biking, rock climbing, etc. etc. I love hanging out in cafes on weekends, listening to podcasts on quirky urbanism innovations, and walking... seeing where the winds take me and stumbling upon new corners of the city I'd never before explored. I just started getting into film photography with a Nikon FA and am really loving it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Changes regularly but everything from R&B to indie rock to electronic. Right now Little Simz, Dave, Rhye, Fred again.. are the artists I have on repeat.

Movies: Independent and/or international films. Loved the Small Axe series by Steve McQueen. Am a sucker for anything with Daniel Day Lewis in it, and am also a sucker for any dark, twisted drama/thriller.

Books: Both fiction and non-fiction, classics and contemporary novels. Some great books I've loved recently: Places of the Heart by Colin Ellard, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nothing - I am extremely mediocre.

I mean, I don't know... maybe farming in Japan? Living in a Kenyan village for 2 months? Scuba diving in Belize? Completing a 4-year bachelor in business despite being extremely anti-capitalist? Depends on how you define "amazing".

What I Can Share with Hosts
