About Me
Hey there! A bit about me, I grew up in Atlanta and New York City to a family of rambunctious Russians. I graduated with a bachelors in English literature and creative writing in May 2018, and now I am excited to pursue my interests of writing, traveling, drawing, MUSIC (seriously-music is my life and I love to perform and play with others and jam the days away!!, filmmaking, cooking (though much to learn in this arena :/), and just chatting with people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Traveling is my life! I'd love to meet other locals when I travel and not be separated as tourist and really form fun and real connections with people all over the world! I've loved the people I've met who do couchsurfing, and would like to be part of the community!
Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite music is anything that makes me feel inspired!! That can change depending on what I need in the moment. I've had phases where I only listen to Radiohead for years, Elliot Smith, Charli XCX, David Bowie, Tinashe, Bjork, Riot Grrl bands like Sleater Kinney and Bikini Kill...I don't really try to keep up with trends in music, just listen to what inspires me and takes me to that place music should!! I am a classical pianist by training, but mostly love rock, hip hop, electronic, and dance for personal pleasure.
Movies!! Oldboy and trainspotting are my favorite movies. I am a movie lover, but not a film buff, so please share your suggestions!! I love all genres.
Books!! I will read anything good-particularly these days feeling poetry and graphic novels/comics and radical history books. Favorite book is probably I love dick by Chris Kraus and tons of russian lit since I grew up reading that. So basically, we can raise a shot of vodka in the air as we discuss existential pains of life with gogol and some radiohead in the background, or space out to some beautiful poetry with bowie , or even better-let's do something totally new!!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent a summer interviewing organizers and musicians around the US for a zine I made which was about DIY feminist music scenes. I met such incredible people through the interviews and the zinefest I participated in, and felt deeply tied to both feminist music and the zine/comics/DIY community after this experience !
Teach, Learn, Share
Always looking to learn form hosts, whatever they have to offer,
What I Can Share with Hosts
DIY projects are my life! I can teach some piano, how to produce and record music (especially on very cheap means!!) We could make a zine!
I can converse in Russian! Also, if Judaism is your jam or your interested in talking about it-I grew up in an orthodox Jewish household (I'm not religious anymore) but that was quite the experience, and am always down to talk about religion and spirituality, as it was such a big part of my upbringing, and learn about different ways various spiritualities can be part of my future!
