About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Find my bliss. Meet different people the world over. CS while traveling.

ABOUT ME

I am happy. A friend once said to find my bliss. I like that idea. Life can be rough but it can also be a great adventure if you are open to it. I like my job, where I live and the people in my circle. But I want to expand my circle and be searching and fearless.
I like to have fun and I like to have quiet moments for personal reflection. I do not drink alcohol or smoke.

PHILOSOPHY

Finding my bliss and helping as many people along the way as I can.
I try to do my best at what I am doing in the moment. I live clean and sober. It has proven to be a healthy answer and a better way of life for me. It wasn't easy giving up some of my vices but it has made all the difference. I am tolerant of other peoples choices. I won't be hosting a keg party but if you enjoy a glass of wine with your meal or a smoke after dinner, that is your choice. We are all individuals with something to offer and it is the differences that make life so interesting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Honestly, not a lot at this time. I hope to CS during my travels in the US this year. My home is an open and welcome respite to fellow CS'ers. I add my two cents to community threads that intrigue me.
See you on the boards.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once got an email from a man from France. He contacted me through my work site. He wanted to know more about the Lakota people and if I knew of a place he could stay. I invited him to stay with me. It was an eye opening experience. It happened to be Sundance week when he came and I introduced him to some of the fire keepers. He was invited to participate. He had the experience of a lifetime and it opened me up to a whole new way of meeting people. We became friends.
A few years later, I went to Ireland and made a side trip to France. Staying with my friend and his fiance'. It was wonderful. I met his family and it was the most relaxing part of my journey. I plan to go back.
I hope to have many more experiences like this one.

Interests

I like art, reading, kayaking, running. Most anything to do with the outdoors. If I am not traveling too much I have a garden. I attend Irish festivals and peddle some of my utilitarian wears in the summer. (It's a good excuse to get to the music!)
I have a dog who travels most everywhere with me, except when I go by plane. He is very well trained. Next to my son and his family, he is the best traveling companion I have ever had.
If it has anything to do with water, count me in.

Music, Movies, and Books

Wacipi, Irish trad and rock, old new rock and roll, heavy metal, (I had some members from a Lithuanian Heavy Metal Death band stay once, (friends of my neighbors, I accommodated the extra space,) blues, jazz, flute, instrumental, all kinds really.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two lifelong dreams I fulfilled, (among many) was ride a hot air balloon. when I was young I passed up the chance because my girlfriends didn't want to go. I regretted that for many years. It did inspire me not to wait though. To know it was okay to do things on my own. I went up years later with a friend in FL. She had had the same dream. It was worth the wait.
I went to see the Spiral Jetty at Salt Lake, UT. I saw it in a documentary in undergraduate school and said to myself, "I'm going to go see that some day." I had a chance to attend a anniversary party for it through an organization I belong to. I went. It was inspiring.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach people how to be creative, even if you think you're not. I can teach people how to draw. I will share what I know about Lakota culture and what I don't.
I am open to learning just about anything. Life is a blank sketchbook and I want to fill the pages with new sights and sounds, and maybe develop some friendships along the way.
