About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I always feel like there are two sides of me, I want to let grow the side of me that I keep taming down.... exploring the world and learning from other cultures is a dream I had all my life, I think it's time to nourish it.
ABOUT ME
I believe that things just happen.Someone once told me,things will happen at the right time and when they do, dare to embrace them.
So, I am doing just that. A total stranger mentioned couch surfing in a recent trip I made, I loved the idea.
Since I was a kid, I loved tourists. Loved the accents, the different looks... loved music in English and my recurring dream was to visit the Big Ben. Naturally, I learnt English, got obsessed with it, traveled to London maybe too many times, though, how can you have enough of London? and fell in love with a Canadian... could not resist the accent... hey,yes...loved it!
I got to Vancouver 7 yrs ago and while a part of me loves to write, walk aimlessly and stare at ducks in a park,I got an office job that keeps me way too busy to enjoy the things I want... I also love my job though it's not where I saw myself ending... like, ever.
PHILOSOPHY
I strongly believe that I am my choices, and I remind myself of it every time a negative thought of self pity comes to my mind.
I believe we live the life we want, the good and the bad we go through is nothing but the result of every little choice we make every single day.
I wish I had more time off, I wish I traveled more... but I chose to study and have a career because it is very important to me to have control and security over my future.
There's no right or wrong, it's what feels right to me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I don't know yet, this is all very new. I think I will start by checking the local CS meetings, that seems like a good start.
Interests
I am a pretty mellow person. I enjoy going to concerts, checking out restaurants, walking.... love walking and Vancouver has so many great places to go and stroll all day long.
I think a lot more than I say, I usually save my thoughts to myself...
- concerts
- walking
- music
- surfing
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies.... used to be into movies a lot, now... not so much...
Some fav movies:
Batman - The Dark Knight (watched it over a dozen times)
Superman - Man of Steel ( just when I had lost faith a Superman movie could be decent, Henry Cavill proved me wrong)
Seven, Sixth Sense, catch me if you can, you've got mail.... oh, too many old movies I will watch any time they are on.
Books... lately I am in a women empowering kick so I have been reading a lot of leadership and rising to the top type of books ( Lean In anyone?)
I have read Harry Potter from beginning to end... about... 5 times and no, I am not ashamed to say it.
I read Hunger Games and I appreciated them a lot more than I expected, made me reevaluate society as it is.
I also read 50 Shades of Grey and yes, I am very ashamed to say it but! as I may have dropped 1 or 2 points of IQ ( some brain cells must have committed suicide, let's face the facts here)... I want to point it out as an example of endurance and my determination to see a task through. I always finish what I start. Always.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
the bravest thing I have done was to move and live a life in a foreign country. Of course at the time, I didn't think it was a big deal. Now I do.
There's this Spanish singer I absolutely adore and one day I got this email for a pre-sale for a new concert in Barcelona. I was so happy to see he was going on tour that I tried to see if I was able to buy a ticket.
I did. And that concert became the reason why I traveled to England, Spain and France that year. A decision made in one second, a memory I will hold for my whole life. And yes, the concert was quite spectacular.
Teach, Learn, Share
I never thought of my knowledge as teaching, but here's the thing. I am Latin. I was born in a city that is as beautiful and attractive as it can be dangerous.
We grow up with a sixth sense to anticipate what may happen around us, it's always on.
Never gave much though to this, but once in Vancouver, I realized truly how different we are. Canadians have this beautiful feature of being trustful and welcoming, and while I love that about them, it worries me when I see how easily they can be taken advantage of.
So, I think I can share tips and stories on how to behave in BA at least.
