About Me

I don't know where I am from. I have lived in four countries in both Africa and Europe, have passports from two other countries, and travelled to a bunch more. This ubringing has certainly contributed to my curious mind.

A generalist I like to know something about a lot of things (but I am no know-it-all). I am always seeking to expand this knowledge, learning from books, people and everything in between. To me there is nothing quite like the feeling of wonder I get when I see someone doing what they are best at.

I am a chilled person, rarely in a rush, I always try to enjoy the moment. Always flexible I try to adapt to most situations. Life is so much nicer when you take the time.

When it comes to travelling I like to have a basic idea of what I am doing but prefer to arrange the details and plans on the spur of the moment. I find one gets a better feel for a place by walking around and finding hidden gems than by rushing to do all the main attractions.

My ideal evening plans are to share a nice dinner and some drinks with a few friends, and listen to music while having a good conversation, or a good house party.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To see the world, and meet the people who live across it, they are the key to understanding and truly seeing this planet.

I am rather new to CS but I love the concept and hope to become an active CSer in the near future.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC: my general preference lies with jazz, classical, classic rock, indie and well executed remixes and mashups (of the aformentioned), also Daft Punk. A friend (a CSer) and I regularly update this playlist with our finds and favourites: http://open.spotify.com/user/1157077490/playlist/5SoB6XROdCgiHyu7faLZHJ

MOVIES: in no particular order: The Brothers Bloom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, La Grande Bellezza, Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight, all of James Bond, Searching for Sugar Man, and so many others, I love movies in general and the hardest part is to choose which ones to watch. I also like series: Mad Men, Suits, Game of Thrones, Scrubs, House of Cards among others.

BOOKS: again, in no particular order: War and Peace (Tolstoï), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Adams), Cyrano de Bergerac (Rostand), The Portrait of Dorian Gray (Wilde), The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald), The Count of Monte Cristo (Dumas), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (Verne), The Stranger (Camus), The Foundation Series (Asimov), The Little Brown Book of Anecdotes (which happens to be a big blue book...) and many more (including comics worth mentioning: Calvin & Hobbes, most of Alan Moore and Gaiman).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For two months in 2012 I went to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, to help teach basic business notions and entrepreneurship to local youths. It was an amazing experience to teach and exchange with these people. Once you live and really interact with the locals you realise the difference in perspectives, it really challenges one's assumptions. I had a fantastic time over there and also had the chance to travel around and see the beautiful national parks (Serengeti and Ngorongoro) and Zanzibar.

Teach, Learn, Share

Above all a good interesting conversation is what I love sharing the most. I am happy to sit down for hours and just exchange ideas, philosophies, and stories.

I am a very curious person so I like to know a little about a lot of things. I love sharing anecdotes and interesting pieces of information, and above all learning more about the world.

I have taught myself design and would be happy to give pointers on the subject. If I can help you with one of your projects I would be more than happy to.

In turn, I love learning about everything from culture to specific skills.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As per above, I am happy to share conversation and knowledge.

Always cheerful (not the hyper kind), I am happy to help out.

I will gladly give (good) music, book and movie recommendations.
