About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I had all sorts of missions for this trip, but so far the only mission I've consistently met is gorging myself on good food and finding nice places to hang out for a while.

ABOUT ME

ENFP, capricorn (but I act more like a sagitarius), 1st generation american of filipino/spanish/chinese descent, new yorker for life :)

I quit my job in sept. 08 to travel for a year and figure out what is next. grad school? writing? mid-wifery? who knows! really, the only thing in my future that is certain is my marriage in may 2009. hahaha, bet you didn't see that coming -- I haven't met any engaged people travelling solo so far :) my fiancee, Michael, is fantastic, and a great reason to come back home eventually. since he's british, we've been doing distance for our entire relationship, so my year-long travels aren't really anything new to us.

what else? I love meeting people and seeing all the quirks and idiosyncracies that makes people so interesting. I love to dance. well what I do would probably be better described as 'booty-shaking,' but either way, I love it. I love food and cooking and eating and anything related to the three -- when I'm working and can't travel for long periods of time, I find my adventures in the kitchen. I have big hair and big feet.

PHILOSOPHY

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." --Philo

Music, Movies, and Books

movies -- Coming to America, Wedding Crashers, Spinal Tap, Mean Girls, Galaxy Quest, Ghostbusters, Romeo + Juliet. I can watch The Mummy, Cruel Intentions, and The Girl Next Door over and over again. I loved Eternal Sunshine. I really loved Closer. I cry every time I watch It's a Wonderful Life.

music -- whatever is on Nocturna, Metropolis or Chocolate City. and Feist, Tribe, Dustin O'Halloran, Erykah Badu, Prince, Nikka Costa, Van Hunt, Twilight Singers. thanks to the wonders of music piracy, I'm currently enjoying Calexico, Andrew Bird, the Wrens, Emily Haines, The Good the Bad & the Queen, Stars, Beirut and Prefuse 73. I have a soft spot for trashy pop music and dirty dirty hip hop.

books -- Gilead, Three Junes, Time Traveler's Wife, Life of Pi, The God of Small Things, Kavalier & Clay, Weight

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love how amazing things can happen every day, but a recent one that comes to mind is the Holi festival in India. you greet people by smearing colored dye on their face, and a friend and I were walking on the street toward a group of little kids. I will never forget the sight of about 12 tiny hands covered in pink/purple/green dye, all outstretched toward my face.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to learn how to cook regional dishes, and how to better use my fancy schmancy camera that I received as a christmas gift.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Canada, China, Costa Rica, France, Guatemala, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Turkey, Virgin Islands, U.S.

Countries I’ve Lived In
