About Me

Hey, I am Gary, I was born in a traditional town in Germany.
I am currently working as Data Science Consultant in Germany. Through my work and studies I have been living in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada, China, Japan, South Africa and Germany. (Taiwan is my absolute favourite destination)
Looking at my photos, you will realize that my looks differs from a "typical" German, which is due to my roots from Hong Kong.

How I would describe myself:
- easy going and spontaneous foodie, hiker & data science enthusiast
- prefer interacting and socializing within smaller groups
- fan of cooking, dining, beers at the riverside, board/card games or randomly wandering around to find some good places to chill.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

'It's all about the people.'

I am not a big fan of just seeing touristic places. In my opinion, the best things about travelling are the people you come across with. I believe that most of the couch surfers share this point of view, which has made a lot of journeys more memorable.

Interests

Volunteering:
- mentored high school students from socially deprived backgrounds and help them breaking math in school. :D
- assisted people, who don't have a job in Germany, at their job search and helped them to prepare their application files.~
- organised a monthly German-Chinese group meeting, as the language and cultural gap was still a barrier for a lot of Chinese students in Aachen
- AIESEC volunteering camp in China, there are just too many amazing memories to write them all up. haha
- department manager of the biggest student arranged career fair in Germany. The teamwork from volunteers from Germany and Europe was just amazing and those aftershow parties were just so great.

Additionally recently I have spent some time on topics such as career planning, investing money and data science.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read fantasy books. Once I start reading a good book, its impossible to stop it. :D Well I used to read a lot of books during my high school, but since university, I feel like that I don't have a lot of time for this. Well, it's my fault as I am just having other priorities, right now. :/
Well some books which I really loved: pillars of the earth, beautiful disaster, die Elfen, die Schättenkämpferin

----
I am a hugh fan of KTV. I cannot sing, but I love to sing. A lot of people are actually saying that I am more reading than singing. xD They might be true, but who cares as long as everyone having fun. :D

I guess you just realized that I am bad at listing things. :D
music: classical Taiwanese movies like 不能說的秘密,那些年,, etc.
sum 41, green day, linkin park. ~

----
Movies: It seems ridiculous for a lot of people, but I really like those typical Asian dramas. I am also a big fan of Taiwanese movies! :D Additionally I am watching every sunday the new episode of One Piece lol. Anyway beside of that I like those typical series like How I met your mother, Games of Thrones etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Sleeping in a tent, which was setted in a greenfield at 900m elevation, while having 2 degree outside, during a roadtrip from France, Italy to Austria
-AIESEC volunteering winter camp in China, sharing stories and experiences to the high school students, following with a solo trip and crappy Chinese language proficiency in China for a month ;D

Teach, Learn, Share

- IT/Engineering stuff
- Languages (German, Englisch, Cantonese and learning Chinese now) + Cantonese is my first language, but its still verrrry improveable. :/
- Cooking (though the kitchen in my dorm sucks haha)
- showing you some good places to eat
- tips to travel in Taiwan/Germany
- boardgames
- stories, travel, life experiences etc.
- placeholder for you
