About Me

House of 5 women and 1 man - *** WOMEN ONLY PLEASE ***

I have a simple home in northwest San Antonio (Leon Valley). Since 2009 I've been renting the rooms out to women, so it's usually fairly full. Sometimes I have a room open and then welcome couchsurfers! It's a quiet place, conveniently located near a park, bus stop and various businesses.

Although I live in San Antonio, I work as a mobile app developer in Austin, so I am generally gone all week, leaving the women to their own devices. For this reason:
1) Weekends tend to work best, although it might be possible to host during the week
2) We're only comfortable with female couchsurfers, preferably just one couchsurfer, since the house is already pretty full. Thanks for understanding!

On the bright side, there is a small bedroom open, wi-fi, and you may use the kitchen and laundry facilities. We're near a bus stop.

About me:
I'm originally from Michigan, where I was homeschooled and went to a small public university. I had little chance to travel outside my own small town, let alone the state, until college. I've enjoyed trying new things, analyzing them, trying to improve. I've visited over 70 different churches to compare similarities and differences. I studied a dozen different student organizations at my campus to see what lessons I could learn about how to make them more effective. I was quite involved in many activities.

Traveling to my first few conferences for various student organizations and activities was quite eye opening!

I had a job offer here in San Antonio. I moved. I bought a house. I worked a month in India, which was an amazing experience. Unfortunately, I lost my job. I became a certified hypnotist. I learned a few things about real estate investing. I learned how to use WordPress for web design. I learned that I needed to improve my time management skills and that it was a very bad idea to try to work on multiple avenues of self-employment at once!

I've also developed an interest in public speaking over the years, from the days in college when professionals advised it would help me get a job, to my experienced on the college speech team, to over six years in Toastmasters of meeting people, running events, mentoring and practicing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I have an open room in my house (which isn't always), it's cool to be able to help a passing traveler by providing her with a place to sleep, especially as it gives me a chance to learn her stories. I particularly enjoy learning about other cultures!

I also hope to be able to use Couchsurfing myself once in a while when I go to different cities, to find a place to crash with interesting people!

Interests

Entrepreneurship, smartphones, Android app programming, WordPress web design, hypnosis, Toastmasters (public speaking). I did become a second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, but it's been years since I was in martial arts--need to get back into that someday!

Music, Movies, and Books

I find "The Impossible Dream" to be quite inspiring.

Favorite movies? Hmm... I really enjoyed Lord of the Rings!

I tend to go through non-fiction business and self improvement books pretty regularly. In terms of fiction, I have a guilty pleasure for sci-fi and fantasy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the three weeks after I graduated from college but before I started my new job at the other end of the country, I drove around the US--about 11,000 miles--on my own. I quickly learned that the famous sites look exactly like they do online, and after driving 12 hours a day every day the experience got a little old. I did love meeting up with friends around the country. People matter. The one sight that did stand out to me was the Grand Canyon at dawn (and not just because you get in free at 5 a.m.) Words cannot describe... it was beautiful.
