About Me
CURRENT MISSION
More bicycles.
ABOUT ME
I strive to be a renaissance man. I am interested in many things, and describe myself as knowing a little about a lot of things. I work as an outdoor educator, teaching people leadership and outdoor skills. I work for Iowa State University's Recreation Services for my real job, and on weekends and other free time I teach Wilderness First Aid courses for the Wilderness Medicine Institute, and I occasionally work courses for NOLS. I like bicycles. I like riding them, working on them, building them. I am married as of Oct. 17th, 2009, and have a greyhound that I love. I participate in and enjoy most outdoor sports, and coordinate an adventure race every year. I enjoy challenging myself physically with various races, I read a lot, I play soccer. I love working with my hands, and enjoy a good day of hard work. I'd like to be able to play a musical instrument, but haven't had time to learn one yet. I have two book ideas but haven't written either yet. I'd like to be known as an artist, an athlete and a scientist.
PHILOSOPHY
I think I said it in my "About me" section. I am always learning and experimenting and creating. I try to be a positive influence on the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've slept on a lot of couches, mostly before this site was started. I've lived in a lot of places, several of them involved living out of a car. I love traveling by thumb, and although I'm a little more settled now than I used to be, I will continue to travel. I owe a lot of peole some couch time - maybe this will help me give back a little. I have some jobs in which I am put into close working and living environments with people I've never met, and I have a lot of fun with that - I kind of see this as an extension of that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I built a bicycle from bamboo. I'm not sure that's amazing, but it's the most recent project I've completed.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have a lot to learn.
I can teach about bicycles, most outdoor skills. I am usually happy to give my opinion on most anything, but I'm also happy to hear other people's.
