About Me

I am a Thai American filmmaker born in Chiang Mai and raised in Spokane. After graduating from the University of Washington in Seattle with a degree in comparative literature and anthropology, I moved to New York City, where I worked at the video hosting site Vimeo and then as a freelancer and production assistant at the web agency m ss ng p eces. I returned to Chiang Mai in 2013, where I spent time as a volunteer and workshop instructor at Documentary Arts Asia, a nonprofit aimed at bringing agency and exposure to Asia-based media artists. I recently earned the Emerging Artist Fellowship at the Jacob Burns Film Center. I am currently working freelance, and researching future projects with the creative organization Planetary Collective.

Interests

Photography and cinematography. The cinematographers I've been admiring the most lately are Roger Deakins and Emmanuel Lubezki.

Space exploration. I will be working on a documentary about astronauts for the next two years.

Effective altruism. How can we find the BEST way to make the world better for EVERYONE?

Folklore and mythology to tell compelling stories. How do we reach to our ancestors, and the deep time they share with the world, to make our stories more resonating?

Cycling and swimming. While living in Thailand I bicycled every single day. Any opportunity I get to swim in pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During a 10-day trip to Japan, I stayed in a Buddhist temple in the mountain village of Koyasan, outside of Osaka. The village is famous for its Buddhist cemetery, a sprawling forest filled with stone statues in remembrance of ancestors. The serenity of the temple and the profound hush of the cemetery have greatly influenced my spirituality and creative process.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have taught filmmaking in terms of DSLR photography and video, as well as computer editing, to friends and students through non-profit organizations. I would be happy to teach and share skills with hosts and fellow travelers!
