About Me

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right"- Henry Ford

Both my mother and father were Deadheads and met in Portland, Oregon while following the Grateful Dead. I was raised by my single mother to be adventurous, loving, and open to anything. I'm preparing to backpack through Europe over the summer, and cannot wait to see more of the world. I'm willing to try almost anything once, and would love to experience a slice of your culture and catch a glimpse into your everyday life. Storytelling one of the most beautiful activities, and it's quickly becoming a forgotten art. I'd very much enjoy listening to your stories and sharing mine. You can learn a great deal from the experiences of others. Hope to get the chance to make memories with you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm an adventurous soul who loves exploring and meeting new people. Spending time with complete strangers and getting to know them on a personal level is something special that can't simply be replicated. Couchsurfing is exactly what I'm after for a few reasons. I want to be able to build relationships and make friends with locals from all around the world. There is no one better suited to welcome you into a city than someone who actually lives there. I don't want to participate in all of the touristy activities. I'd much rather use my short time to share experiences with genuine, amazing people and explore the city with you.

Interests

My interests and tastes are fairly eclectic. I'm incredibly passionate about music, and there is nothing better in this world than live music. Creating beauty from silence is unlike anything else, and music can put you in any kind of mood that you desire.

I've played hockey since I was three years old, and it is a game that I will play until I'm physically unable to skate. Growing up in Pennsylvania, I'm a huge Pittsburgh Penguins fan. I'm also a big football fan (American football that is), and my team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. While I really enjoy playing soccer, I don't really have a club that I have an affinity with.

I'm very into drawing, and it is a huge stress reliever for me. One of my favorite ways to wind down is to throw on some mellow tunes and draw for a few hours. I wouldn't say that I'm a great artist, but it's always pleasant and relaxing.

Recently, I've gotten into poker. After finally learning how to play, I find it amazingly entertaining. Some people can't stand the slow pace, but I find the intricacies and the psychological aspect to be very stimulating. Having a few drinks over a few hands of poker is a great way to spend an evening.

I'm very much into trying new beers from the local breweries wherever I'm visiting. I'm certainly a huge IPA guy, and love tasting a new one whenever I get the chance. It would be a pleasure to share a pint with you at your favorite pub!

Music, Movies, and Books

My range of musical taste is pretty broad. I'd say I listen most frequently to alternative rock and folk rock. You can find me regularly listening to classic rock, jazz, and hip hop as well. I have a great deal of artists that I listen to often, but right now my top artists over the last year have been the Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket, Gorillaz, Interpol, Daft Punk, Bowie, Modest Mouse, Leon Bridges, and Prince.

Psychological thrillers are certainly my favorite type of film. Movies that really make you think for weeks after you've watched them are always the best. Some of my favorites in no particular order are Primal Fear, American Psycho, Good Will Hunting, Black Swan, The Shining, Reservoir Dogs, Taxi Driver, Trainspotting, Pulp Fiction, Pan's Labyrinth, The Professional, The Dark Crystal & The Labyrinth (childhood favorites), Jackie Brown, Amélie, Silence of the Lambs, and Donnie Darko.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When I travel, I'm usually minimalistic and don't bring any goodies from home. What I can offer is someone who will be courteous, lively, and open minded. I'm open to going out and having some drinks at night, but am also totally content with taking it easy. I like to think that I'm good company to have around, and I can offer you someone who genuinely wants to immerse himself in your culture. I don't really have a set itinerary, and will rarely say no to any kind of activity that you propose. I'm very respectful and will leave your home in the same way that I found it. I take this seriously, and you can be assured that I will not abuse your graciousness. If I have food at the time or their is a grocery store near by, I'd love to cook us dinner! I just want to share experiences and make memories with awesome people, that's why I'm here.
