About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Broaden my horizon.

ABOUT ME

PhD candidate in Chemistry at McGill. I like making things (both in the lab and in the kitchen). I wish there is room in our times for a renaissance man, because I much prefer to be a jack of all trades than a master of one. I enjoy people watching at airports while writing (YVR is still my favourite airport), relaxing with friends over beers and other liquor, and simple hikes.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm often shocked at how racist my parents are. I know it's not because they're mean-spirited or ignorant, but because of how they were raised and their environment. I know I can be racist sometimes too, but I'm trying to expose myself to as much of the world as possible, so as to become a better human being.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My flat in Dresden was spacious had a futon/couch, so whenever possible, I liked to host people. Hoping that the next time I go travelling, I'll be able to surf some.

Interests

Besides the ones listed above, I like music/preforming arts - I've played bass clarinet for ~11 years, with the occasional dabble in clarinet and bari sax, and I participated in a residence musical as a chorus member (Guys and Dolls). I've currently retired from the bass clarinet, and haven't pursue any musical interests as of late, but if I have time in the future, I'd like to get back into it. I'm an avid volleyball player, and it's the one activity I'll try to do as much as possible. I play middle, and although I'm not great, practice makes perfect right? I used to write proses/blogs (http://changjus.blogspot.ca) and I think I'm going to try to start that up again, because my weakest point in academic/scientific writing is that I have problems "telling a story".

Music, Movies, and Books

I've recently finished Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, which reminds me of my love for fantasy novels.

I do watch a lot of TV such as Community, The Newsroom, Smash, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, HIMYM, Glee, House M.D, Breaking Bad, Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, Mad Men, True Blood, etc (I'm a bit of a TV junkie)

I enjoy most movies, but my favourite ones have always had a bit of dark in them, while being pretty straight forward to understand: Fight Club, Constantine, Sin City, etc. I'm looking forward to Sin City 2, but from the trailers, I'm not necessarily in love with how they chose to do the colouration, so I'm hoping the plot will be good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I grew my hair out to make a wig for cancer survivors. I grew it for 2 years in high school, and it was shoulder length before I donated it. It was a great way to be able to talk to people about cancer/survivors/donations. Although it looked pretty awful on me, it actually saved a lot of time in upkeep; I just tie it in a pony tail and go to school, none of that brushing, and wetting, and styling stuff that short hair requires.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, Germany, Taiwan
