About Me

Hey there! I'm Veer, a nomadic architect and urban explorer with a passion for traditional architecture and cultural insights. I'm on an ambitious journey to explore all 28 states and 8 union territories of India, with a mission to understand and appreciate the unique vernacular architectural styles that are indigenous to each region.

My travels have taken me to 23 states and 3 union territories so far, and I've been constantly amazed by the diversity and beauty of the traditional buildings that I've encountered. From the vibrant colors and intricate patterns of Rajasthan's palaces to the serene simplicity of Himachal Pradesh's temples, each place has offered its own architectural wonders and cultural insights.

As I continue my journey, I'm excited to explore the remaining states and territories and discover what insights and perspectives they have to offer. I believe that this journey is not only essential to my personal and professional growth but also to preserving the diversity and richness of vernacular architecture in India.

If you're a fellow traveler or architecture enthusiast, I'd love to connect and share stories and insights. Let's explore the world together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of the primary reasons for my decision to embark on this journey across India is to gain a deeper understanding of the local communities and their cultural backgrounds. I believe that by interacting with locals and experiencing their way of life firsthand, I will gain valuable insights into their homes, cultures, and traditions. This, in turn, will enhance my understanding of the architectural styles that are unique to each region and how they are influenced by local customs and practices.

Additionally, by traveling and staying in different places, I hope to make new friends and create memories that will last a lifetime. As a traveler, I recognize that personal connections and relationships with locals are often the most rewarding aspect of any journey.

Lastly, I believe that this approach to travel will also save me a significant amount of money in the long run. By interacting with locals and staying in more authentic, budget-friendly accommodations, I can stretch my travel budget further and gain an experience that is richer and more rewarding than a traditional touristic approach.

Interests

As a nomad architect, my interests lie in delving deep into the intricate details of daily life. I am particularly fascinated by how architecture, culture and traditions come together in the various regions of India, and how they shape the ways in which people live their lives. My current journey across India is a quest to uncover these subtleties and gain a more nuanced understanding of the way people live across this diverse nation, I find this journey exciting as every day comes with new surprises and experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

I always like to start with the big screen, diving into the world of movies. From there, I delve into the pages of biographical books to gain insights into the lives of fascinating individuals. And as the final touch, I add a layer of soulful and popular music to complete the immersive experience. Whether it's the latest South Indian film, a thought-provoking biography, or a soulful rendition of a classic song, these three elements come together to transport me to new worlds and perspectives.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most incredible experiences I've had was traveling to a remote location in Nagaland and immersing myself in an entirely distinct way of life. It was a truly transformative journey that broadened my horizons and opened my eyes to the beauty and diversity of the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

About teaching…..I can teach about the different architectural styles and techniques that I have encountered on my travels, as well as the cultural and historical context behind them. I can also share my own architectural designs and ideas and inspire others to think creatively about the built environment.

About learning….I can learn about different cultures and ways of life, and how they shape the built environment. For instance, how the architectural design of houses in a desert region are different from those in the mountainous regions. This can help me understand how local customs and traditions influence the design and construction of buildings.

About Sharing…..I can share my experiences and perspectives on how sustainable architecture can be incorporated in different regions, and how it can be adapted to suit local climates, materials, and resources.

Additionally, I can also share the benefits of traveling and living a nomadic lifestyle, and inspire others to embrace the idea of living and working on the go. With the skill of photography and videography I can also document my journey in an engaging and interesting way, allowing others to share my experiences and perspectives.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Of course, I would be delighted to give you an account of my travels across India. I have been fortunate to encounter a wide range of cultures, customs and architectures, and I am excited to share my experiences with you. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to make new friends and connections along the way, and I would love to tell you about them. Sharing my journey with you not only gives me an opportunity to relive my experiences but also to add more fun and excitement to it with our conversations.
