About Me

Journalists, Philosophers, Writers and other creative thinkers (accompanied by a bottle of red wine) may come and stay at any time.

A little note on the Apartment:
It seem quite common in french for everyone to have their own tiny flats instead of sharing larger ones and so it is with mine in the Student dormitory here. So don‘t expect anything big, but I do very much enjoy interior designing, so I think its has evolved away from it‘s beginnings, resembling a little prison cell to quite a comfortable hang out. (I really think they have the same architects doing both here in france)

Im not going to go in depth into my biography here, such matters are always better discussed in the context of conversation but I will say this much.
I have had the fortune of being born to American parents and to have grown up and been educated in Europe.
I was raised in the country side of a rather remote State in Germany called Saarland or ‚Land of the River Saar‘. After finishing my schooling there I left for Freiburg where I studied Biology, Theology and Economics and now I am here in Paris doing an exchange, before finishing up my life as a student and starting the next Chapter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I know that this is the place to write some overly romantic version of why Couchsurfing has changed my life, but it didn‘t. I used to do a lot of hitchhiking and would sometimes sleep in parks and well.. Couchsurfing is obviously a lot nicer then that.
Also Couchsurfing does tend to attract more of the creative thinkers and people that are willing to test their own perceptions of the world. So folks just tend to be a little be nicer and more interesting here and I have had the pleasure to meet quite a few tremendous people here.

Music, Movies, and Books

..I had a long story here, but because of a system bug it got deleted and I still haven‘t brought up the motivation to rewrite it all again, so for now you are stuck with: I like music and I play a few (very easy) percussion instruments myself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked to a friends place, to have a little smoke with him. About two hours into the 5 hour hike the sun went down. An hour after that I made the amusing discovery that my flashlight battery wasn‘t working. Attempting to hurry things up I decided to leave the path and go a ‚more direct route‘. I had after all already hiked in that area once before and felt an expert in it‘s geography.
Living up to it‘s name, the „wild Coast“ on the southern tip of Africa in which I was hiking did not show any signs of habitation. Even on the top of a hill I couldn‘t see a trace of civilisation anywhere. Thats when I looked for a large Stick to fend off any wild dogs, of which there were many. Only a few minutes later I was standing in front of a dense and unpleasingly dark forest and was facing a decision of scraping my way through the bushes at night or attempting a narrow path on cliffs falling down into the ocean. I decided upon the cliffs as unknown animals and insects scared me a lot more then the narrow path. On the way towards those cliffs I kept up my regular look out every few minutes, shining the dimm light of my cell phone in a circle around me. That was the first time I saw two white objects light up brighter then any of the bushes surrounding them.
...i guess you‘ll have to come over to hear the rest of the story..
