About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To show others our beautiful area!
ABOUT ME
I am a hiker from the beautiful southern Appalachians, and enjoy traveling, especially to outdoor destinations. I have also become somewhat of a cycling enthusiast over the past few years. Some people in town call me a social butterfly, since I enjoy hosting parties, and talking about everything. I love literature, especially nonfiction and short stories. I love wine and craft beers, and have become quite a snob with my beer-drinking friends.
My wife Cheryl loves to travel, and most of her family lives in the American MidWest. We want to host people to bring the traveling to us. She enjoys being active, going walking everyday and doing aerobics each week. She has also done some leisure cycling lately, which she really enjoys. If you like to bike, she could show you some nice local trails. She is also a good cook!
We have three grown kids, and love to visit them, since they are now scattered around the world. They have all done couchsurfing, and we would love to host.
PHILOSOPHY
Large question, am still working it out.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Our son David has become an avid couchsurfer since going to college, and has convinced us that we would like it, too. We have hosted many couchsurfers and are creating our guest photo montage. We are really looking forward to hosting interesting some travelers.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Our couchsurfing experience started with our son. Someone he hosted stayed with us, which was a great introduction to CS. We have had some long-term couchsurfers, but not through the website (friends of friends). Those experiences have made our empty nest not so empty, which we enjoy.

Music, Movies, and Books
We enjoy watching movies and film, Ken Burns documentaries, the Help, all sorts of others (just ask). We love music, especially on vinyl... yeah, we're old school. Our favorites are probably the Beatles and Abba. We have quite the record collection if you are into that. We read a lot of books, and are apart of a drinking club with a book problem. Check out our library in our house for some great nonfiction, fiction and classics. Always maps of any kind, the more the better.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Charles spent the summer after high school hitchicking and backpacking around Alaska.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to tie knots, hang a backcountry hammock, how to take long distance backpacking and give you tips on navigating in the woods by map and compass or in a cave. As a semi-retired Contractor if it can be built I can build it.
Cheryl can teach you how to sew clothes back together, how to taxi kids around town and how to effectively get in and out of the Wal-Mart.
We would like to learn how to travel together without killing each other. We could use some schooling in other languages, too, since our kids can nearly all speak a foreign language.
