Overview
About Me
I guess let's start with some adjectives? Fun, friendly, curious, adventurous, outgoing, cheerful, polite, kind, happy, free spirited, talkative, respectful, thoughtful, smiley, energetic, independent, analytical, intelligent and I'll add more as they come to me.
As for a bit about my background, I grew up in the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, which is on the Atlantic Ocean, but have been living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada since 2008. I miss the ocean, especially in the summer, but Calgary does have the Rocky Mountains so great skiing/snowboarding and hiking! And let's not forget that it's home to the world's largest outdoor show - The Calgary Stampede!!!
I lived in Japan and Thailand years ago, but haven't been back to Asia since then (just went back in April/May 2015 for first time in ~7 yrs), so I would love to go back and see how things have changed and eat some great food (did it and it was amazing)! In fact, since I came back to Canada and started a career in Finance - foreign exchange, I've had little time to really take vacations as in this industry, at least on the trading side, you are worked like a dog.
My resolution for 2015 is to get to Asia and visit China (never got there when I was in Asia - Flight booked April 2015) and hopefully visit Korea and Japan as well. Then I'd like to get into Europe this summer and hopefully Argentina in the fall. Ambitious plans? Probably. Will I be allowed to take that many vacation days? Probably not; even though I think I must have 6 months of vacation owed to me!
What else? I'm friendly, talkative (I'm sure you've noticed) and open-minded. I love to keep abreast on what's happening in the world and read a lot of international news - part of the job for traders as well... I wish I had more time to learn languages and to be honest, a better head for languages. Meeting new people and learning about their life experiences is fascinating and really gives you a wider perspective on the world and the people in it.
Anyway, who knows? We might see each other one day soon!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Finally I used Couchsurfing in February 2015 and it was awesome! Stayed with a great person and met some other really nice, and cool CS-ers.
I'm looking forward to hosting as being from the maritimes (Eastern Canada), hospitality is what we're known for!!!
Why do I like the idea of CS? Well, I'm not a big fan of hotels in general. Too impersonal, sterile, boring, lonely and defeat the purpose of being in another country and its culture.
A lot of the fun and excitement of going to a new country is in meeting the people as people are what make the experience and the memories!
I enjoy traveling to meet people, not just places. And having stayed at numerous hotels over the years, it is definitely more difficult to meet the 'locals' and get a true feeling of the place you;re visiting. Even in Canada, when I go on business trips, I always try to stay at friends' or friend's of friends places despite my company's willingness to put me up in nice, fancy hotels.
I'm very clean and neat and cherish having new interactions and relationships with people from all over the world and of different backgrounds.
In Calgary, I live right downtown (where all the action is) and it's a bit cramped for space, but regardless, my couch is always open and even my friends might put you up at their places, so always feel free to ask as chances are I can help you out at the very least! And you can probably even use my car if you have an International Driver's Licence.
Looking forward to hosting/being hosted or just meeting up for an adventure! Don't be a stranger if you're in Canada!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Just one? Where to begin really...
Teach, Learn, Share
Sure. What do you want to learn? I'm game to try and teach anything even if I don't know it. Gotta fake it until you make it, right?
What I Can Share with Hosts
Good times, laughs, drinks, positive friendship, Canadian home-cooked meals, lessons in Finance and trading (if you are really that bored), witty conversation, cultural exchange, language exchange (I still remember some of my foreign languages... probably...), a smile and a hug. Umm... that's all I can think of at the moment.
