I’m a Chai tea-drinking, guitar-playing, ESOL-teaching, Spanish-learning, off-beat dancing, granola-crunching environmentalist who’s on Couchsurfing to meet incredible people. Summer 2016 I had an incredible adventure through Spain, living the life in Sevilla. I guess you could say that’s when I was bitten by the “wanderlost” bug and decided to spend 2017 traveling to many countries. I returned February 2018 and began work in the San Francisco Bay area as a a consultant. Having been born in South Carolina and raised in Georgia, I consider myself a “refugee from the South."

Perhaps the most moving quote that describes my outlook on life can be surmised by the words of Brad Pitt when he played the character Benjamin Button (before Angelina Jolie f***** him up): “For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit; stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same; there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it.”

ES: Bebiendo té de chai, tocando la guitarra, enseñando inglés, aprendiendo español, bailando sin ritmo, masticando granola – eso soy yo. Estoy en Coachsurfing para conocer gente increíble. El verano de 2016 tuve una increíble aventura por España, viviendo la vida en Sevilla. Supongo que se podría decir que fue cuando caí víctima de "wanderlust" y decidí pasar el año siguiente viajando a muchos países. Regresé a los Estados Unidos en febrero de 2018 y comencé a trabajar en San Francisco en una consultoría. Habiendo nacido en Carolina del Sur y criado en Georgia, un lugar muy lejos y muchísimo peor que San Francisco, me considero un "refugiado del sur.”

Quizás el dicho más conmovedor que describe mi visión de la vida puede encontrarse en las palabras de Brad Pitt cuando interpretaba al personaje Benjamin Button (antes de que Angelina Jolie le derribara): "Por lo que vale: nunca es demasiado tarde o, en mi caso, demasiado temprano para ser quien quiera ser. No hay límite de tiempo; puedes parar cuando quieras. Puedes cambiar o permanecer igual; Para esto no hay reglas. Podemos sacar lo mejor o lo peor de esto. Espero que lo hagas lo mejor posible.”

And of course Brad Pitt (Benjamin Button) goes on to say, “I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”

I see meeting a new person as a new opportunity – an opportunity to find at least something remarkable about that person that I can learn from and that can challenge me. Of course this has to be mutual, and I also enjoy contributing to the lives of cool people.

As for hosting, I only host Spanish-speaking guests, who vow to only talk to me in Spanish.

Interests

I enjoy crushing the patriarchy, fighting for gender equality, and helping destroy racism. Or when that gets tiring, watching re-runs of Will & Grace, Sex & the City, or quality television programming of the like with a nice bottle of Roscatto.

I read things that quench my thirst for life-long learning. Books of self-development, history, anatomy, and science top my list, but sometimes fiction can be just as mind-provoking as non-fiction, especially when it comes from the pen of Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou. As for my music and movie tastes? Inquire within.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

If you play a musical instrument or sing, let’s play a song together. If you speak Spanish or are learning English, let’s do intercambio. If you have an interest in photography, let’s geek out about aperture and how Cannon is so much better than Nikon. If you have a spring-form pan, I am for sure going to make you my Oreo cheesecake recipe, but pretty please don’t ask me to use ½ fat cream cheese or ½ fat Oreos. ½ fat equals ½ the fun.
