About Me

I was born in Kamwokya; one of the most impoverished slums in Uganda. Growing up in an environment characterized by lack of opportunity, poverty, crime, drugs and poor health, I harnessed a spirit of social responsibility and an insatiable desire to give back to my community. Before completing High school (2007) I designed the "Self-Sustaining Community" (SSC) model of enterprise to transform my community through; job creation, improving access and affordability for health, education and youth entrepreneurial empowerment.

At 20 I used savings from a part-time job working in a car garage (US $ 30 a month salary) to start and implement my own social enterprise ideas (SSC).
- Employment: In 2008 using my meager savings, I started a community farm that has today grown to employ 50 people each season.
- Health: In 2011, I used profits from the farm to establish Family Health Center to advocate, sensitize and improve access and affordability of health services.
- Youth Empowerment; In 2012 I used profits from the farm and Health center to start Tree Adoption Uganda (TAU), that has today been registered as a Non Governmental Organization that uses a climate friendly model to empower young unemployed youth into small scale entrepreneurs.
- Education: In 2013 I started Empower Student Center a public library that seeks to supplement education of children in rural villages like at my farm.

In 2012, pursuant to my desire to inspire fellow young people, share my experiences with like-minded leaders and create global collaborations, I participated and won World Merit’s Your Big Year (2012) global social entrepreneurship competition out of over 60,000 contestants from 221 countries. I took a gap year to travel and meet business leaders, key partners in social entrepreneurship like Echoing Green, Ashoka, Laureate, and Rotary among others and volunteered in 17 countries on Social responsibility projects. I accepted invitations to give lectures on social entrepreneurship at Universities around the world and to coach entrepreneurs a various levels and ages some much more older than I am.
In Colombia, Brazil, India, Uganda, Mexico, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, USA, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Norway, Newzealand and Australia, I have shared my experience at various forums, built a global network and acquired the experience of working with people from different cultures, nations and backgrounds. In 2013 I was named Global Laureate Fellow by the International Youth Foundation and undertook a yearlong training and mentorship fellowship in social entrepreneurship with the Youth Action Net.
