About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Bicycle across Asia or bust!!

ABOUT ME

I was up until very recently a student at a Canadian university who was counting down the days til my schooling was complete. Looking for a change and a challenge I had decided about a year ago to go on a bike trip. My last major trip was through Asia and involved purchasing an auto rickshaw in India and motoring around. I had grown tired of the ease of flying and bussing and had developed a taste for the independence afforded by having your own vehicle. While this time I'll be self-propelled, the challenge only adds to the excitement of the trip.
Since this trip will take a couple years or so, there is not really much else to say about myself since I feel this will be an all-consuming experience.

PHILOSOPHY

It's tough to come up with any maxim but I feel its important to find your joie de vivre and pursue it. It's too easy to get complacent in life and avoid the pursuit of meaningful actions. I'm not entirely sure what "meaning" is but I believe that it means something different for each and every person and the definition is something that we create ourselves through self-reflection and analysis. Life offers too many absurd adventures to ignore!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently on a bike trip across Asia with my friend Stuart, so where ever possible we'd be looking to surf. That said I'll be looking to give back once this odyssey is over.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Haven't actually hosted or stayed at any couchsurfer's home yet but have still been treated to the kindness of strangers before.

Interests

Travel (obviously), reading, writing (just journaling really), camping, hiking, watching movies, listening to music, cooking, experiencing new things, tasting new foods. The prospects of new adventure!

Music, Movies, and Books

These are always tough questions to answer and can vary on a daily basis. Fact is, I'm open to most anything.

Ok, here goes...
Favourite directors are Akira Kurosawa, Stanley Kubrick, Jim Jarmusch, Wong Kar Wai, Wes Anderson
Favourite movies I've recently seen: Ikiru, In the Mood for Love, Cleo 5 to 7.

Favorite novelists are probably William Faulkner, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Franz Kafka, or Michael Chabon

As for music I listen to most anything.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well a friend and I purchased an auto rickshaw in Southern India and drove it north until the Himalayas stopped us. That's quite an accomplishment for me, something that I'm still amazed I got away with.

Teach, Learn, Share

Not too sure about this. I know that there are an infinite number of ways to find joy and contentment in life yet it seems that too many people lack the imagination or the courage to discover what works for them. This is not to say that I've unearthed any vital piece of knowledge regarding happiness, but I believe that it is something that you must always be on the look out for. Try to venture out of your comfort zone every once in a while. I know that I get in a rut when I do the same thing for too long.
