ABOUT ME

I am 24 years old and from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I am currently traveling with my good friend Mike (you can find his profile here: https://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=6V83C5P) in New Zealand and planning to head to Southeast Asia for a few months. We hope to see and experience new things, play music for new friends, and sleep on some comfy couches!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy, more so learned than discovered, comes from experiences and relationships I have had. Although I don't make a point of putting it into words often, it is best expressed by a question my father (AND ALSO BUDDHA!) has taught me to ask myself, "Who are you, and why are you here?" And always, "seek to understand, then to be understood."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am realizing more and more that the couchsurfing world is a unique display of trust. Both on the part of the host and the surfer. Although I have not hosted anyone registered on couchsurfing, I have welcomed people into my home who have been traveling. So far, it has only been a positive experience. By giving someone a bed to sleep on, I get to hear their stories in return...a trade I'd make any day.

I am hoping that I can do the same when I surf. I want to tell my stories too. There is always the option of staying in hostels, and if need be, I will take that option, but swapping stories seems like a better way to travel in my books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Since I do not have a good memory, I will offer a recent example. I was near the arctic circle working for a company that did ecology studies. We were in a helicopter near Hudson's Bay. We spotted a polar bear, and the pilot, being more curious than aware of the damaging effect helicopters can have on polar bears, decided to get as close as possible to this big, beautiful, terrifying creature. We got within 20 feet of the polar bear. I could see its lips move. I COULD SEE ITS LIPS MOVE! It was an amazing sight.
