Hi! I’m Charley, I’m 19 years old and I come from Scotland. I love travelling, and have travelled a bit around Europe and also to Nicaragua and Malawi. Right now i'm living in Germany and looking to travel around Germany and Scandinavia in my semester holidays.

I'm studying here in Germany at the moment, and although i'm not fluent i can speak German and love having opportunities to practice it.

I love reading, learning about new cultures and places, meeting new people, drawing and exploring.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the concept of couchsurfing, as in the past when i've travelled i've always had a much better experience actually meeting and staying with locals, and immersing myself in the local culture. It's now so easy to travel to a new country, spend a week there, and never have a proper coversation with someone who actually comes from that country, which i think is a shame.

I love Belle and Sebastian, Arcade Fire and the Smiths among many other bands! I love movies and books from all around the world. My favourite authors are Louis de Bernieres and Jonas Jonasson.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2016 i volunteered in Nicaragua on a Raleigh ICS project. I lived in a small community with a host family on their farm, and over ten weeks got to know them very well. I spoke no Spanish when i went there, and i managed to pick up enough to communicate with my family by the end. A lot of things were very different there and i had to learn how to wash clothes by hand and prepare local food. I miss it a lot and hope to go back at some point in the future!
